Some pretty mismatched grain on a Lakland

My opinion has always been MIK Laklands are better quality than the Indonesian made Laklands.

Not a natural finish, but grain is easily visible - American Special, 3 piece body:

Ouch. That shouldn't have been made into a natural finish instrument. It needs paint.

That is the obvious solution. That grain would look great under LPB

My Ray34 natural finish has a perfect back and front. To me, that back finish is unacceptable.

I actually like the "swirly' side much better, wish they'd made the whole thing out of that. So yeah, it's pretty, but mismatched, good thread title.

So, which side is mismatched?

I could never do it, but that's the beauty of in this case being able to see the bass before you buy it.

I understand that they won't try to make two pieces look like one, but they can at least pick two pieces that look remotely close to each other.

I immediately didn't like - I'm picky.
I've owned a few natural Skylines, one with some unique grain in it, but nothing that poorly matched.
Sadly, looks like a Squier.

What do you all think of the grain match on the back of this Lakland? I think the front looks pretty decent.

Just a few questions:
Are you planning on buying it?
Does Sweetwater have any others available?

It's just a bit of wood grain.

I'd buy this bass before I'd buy a bass from several large manufacturers.

Some guy will buy it, love it's sound and make good music with it, so that's all fine.

I'm in the camp of TBers who think the front looks fine, and the back...eh, not so much. Sweetwater has a good exchange policy, so if you like it, get it. If not, send it back.
(Does anyone remember that Seinfeld episode, where Jerry dates that gal who looks really good in some lighting, but kinda scarey in other lighting? I think that bass may have belonged to her.)
Seriously though, I've owned ALOT of Ash bodied guitars and basses. I'm very picky about wood grain. If that bass is a rock solid player, I could live with it. I'll admit my bias, I do really like Lakland Basses.

That would always bother me. I love a natural finish, but only if it's either one piece or very well matched. Seems like they didn't really put enough thought into choosing those two pieces.
