Definitely not imminent disaster, but we've all see examples of neck-throughs where a body wing has partially separated from the neck (very different grain/orientation/type stuck together). You can see how it could happen. Not my cuppa.

Some pretty mismatched grain on a Lakland

Not a fan of natural finishes anyway so I'd never buy it. And I certainly wouldn't go near that one. That body should be turned into firewood.
Yet it apparently has passed through Indonesian hands, Lakland USA's hands, and Sweetwater's hands and is still being given a pass. I would think the person who inventoried and photo'd that bass at Sweetwater would have rejected and sent it back to Lakland. Lots of ongoing fail for it to get this far.
I guess I'm in the minority here because I find the mismatch is sort of interesting?

This guy is right - I am sure it plays fine, though for a natural grain bass, it is rubbish.

I actually really dig it. Kinda wish you could see the clash better from the front. Makes me think DEEP BASS TECTONIC COLLISION or something
I think you guys need to get some gigs so you don't have time to pick apart every small detail of every bass.
A few months back, I started a thread regarding a Fender Jaco bass & whether or not the neck was grossly misaligned, or it was just deception due to a slightly off kilter photo. Coincidentally, the bass in question disappeared in a matter of hours.
Coincidence? I think not!
I'm convinced there's a Sweetwater representative lurking among us...
I recently acquired this 2013 Fender American Deluxe Precision & I'm absolutely stunned by the beauty of this ash body. It almost looks spalted to me. There's some greyish areas around the grain.
I'm sure my crummy cellphone photo does it no justice, but, I've just got to show it off while we're on the topic of natural top basses.
It also sounds & plays as beautiful as it looks.

I actually bought it- before I made this post. That's my plan, just to make music with it. I gig a lot. It weighs about 8.75 lbs (main reason for buying it). It will arrive Friday afternoon and I'm going to play a total of 5 gigs with it this weekend.
Honestly, until I started reading what people post on bass forums it would never have occurred to me that this could even be considered an issue. I have a bass I built with a similarly mismatched three piece Ash body and IMO it looks fine.
