Something we can all be outraged about together.

I really doubt that a majority of the 7+ billion people on the planet are such scum as to lose faith in humanity.
If one's faith in the good of people is so shaken Id venture to say that its likely to have been flighty to begin with.

Yes, bad things happen and people are capable of doing horrible things, however thats all in contrast to the opposite. I think its safe to say that most people do not perpetrate these types of acts nor do they condone them.

This.

Nothing I've seen during my time on this planet would lead me to share your optimism.

Have you ever seen a dog euthanized with gas? I have. Tell me how a civilized society could possibly condone this type of activity:

The Pollyanna in me likes to think that the outrage we are uniformly expressing is evidence of how far we've progressed. This would not have evoked the same reaction a century ago.

I'm not sure.
Back in the medieval times most people were a lot closer to nature. I cannot imagine a peasant not caring for his livestock even if he was planing to kill and eat it.
Firsts nations on many continent believed the animals had spirit too.

I think the videos in op are an anedoctal fact, evil, sick and pervert, but yet still anedoctal. It wouldn't be beneficial to base your faith on a statiscaly insignificant data point. Plenty of good people are caring for their animals right now. Plenty of people have a profound disdain for this type of behavior.

The perverse curiosity of the public seems to me to be the fuel of those sick individuals. Even the description of the act was unbearable to me and I had to skip a part of the article but I still wanted to learn about it. I try to avoid it now but I once watched a video of a guy being attacked while surfing the tube. I regret watching it because I consider it is a form of mental pollution and because it enables the individuals to share those type of videos.

This reminds me of a flick that came out a few years ago. The movie was pretty lame itself, but it spoke to this point, "the perverse curiosity of the public".

I can't let myself believe the whole world sucks when I stumble across the idiots who make their part of it suck. I'd rather go looking for something to love about someone than to throw my hands up in the air and declare the entire globe a lost cause.

The whole "I've lost faith in humanity" declarations feel overly dramatic to me when people say it.

Then you need to find something else to do with your life, or find different people to associate with, or just generally make a change. There is plenty of beauty and hope in this world if you're willing to see it.

Same. The funny thing is that it's usually said by people who willingly put themselves into positions where they're exposed to some of the worst parts of life.

I'm not surprised by this story at all. I'm not very impressed with people in general and the fact that some of them engage in this type of behavior seems like par for the course to me. My belief is that we're not all great folks and we're not all horrible folks either. I think we're just kinda okay in the overall scheme of things(emphasis on kinda). One thing's for sure though, people can be a-holes. Animals can't.

As someone who has worked in community mental health for far too long, I know I'm jaded. I'm not trying to be dramatic when I say such things, but I witness such a lack of morals among the population for as long as I have, it's hard to be optimistic. Then, when I go home and watch the news, I really lose optimism. From our elected leaders all the way down to our common criminals, so many people just don't care about others.

May want to change the news you're watching.:)
