It could have been instinct for lower hominids as well, but there's no way for me to find out. I'm just glad these kind people are a minority, as vile as these two are.

Sometimes things like this make me question what really is right and wrong? How can I know, if my reality is obviously so much different than theirs? Who says I'm right? Who says they're wrong? We're all subject to pain and loss and disappointment. We all succumb to the finality of death. For a being who does not consider the future, why does it live? Why do we live? Just because?

Joking aside, focus on your own intuition and reason and don't worry about "meaning". Searching for "meaning" is a self perpetuating cycle of logic (think of it as a feedback loop) that puts all the weight on "why" instead of "what".
As in "Why is this?" rather than "What is this?" One has an answer, the other is meaningless - see how the loop starts?
Some truth there, but you can either go through life being suspicious of everyone, or you can go through life treating everyone as if they were your friend - one of these ways is far more enlightening and enjoyable.

Sorry dude, I like you and think you have some good insights into music and other things, but sometimes when you start engaging in armchair sociology, it leaves my face looking like this:
Yeah... a friend of mine has a tattoo behind her ear, and owns lots of animals. I will make sure she doesn't cross over to the dark side and get a tattoo 2 inches to the right. Then her cats, dogs, fish, and lizard might be in immediate danger.
It's easy to blame a big, scary, nebulous bad thing that has all of these controversial aspects. Let's see... add a 'lil nudity, some tattoos, mass murder, hmm... okay, it's done: The evil behind animal killing! It absolutely reeks of personal opinions of completely unrelated things being packaged into something you couldn't possibly advocate (animals torture).

It's a nice thought. I honestly don't believe we're that good though. A check of our work so far pretty much holds up that view, as far as I can tell.

Nope but ive seen my neighbors cat slowly torture a baby chuipmunk by capturing it and letting it run off about two feet before dragging it back to the original spot until the chipmunk died of exhastion. I dont know if its the water around here or what but I saw some birds try to piss off my neighbors cat (same cat that tortured the chipmunk) by swooping down as close as it could without getting swiped at. Also theese dumb birds do the same thing with my car... they jump on the road when they see a car coming and fly away at the last possible moment leaving the driver

But it is a survival instinct. The animals are practicing their survival skills. They have no morals or ethics. It's just survival of the fittest. Sure it might be possible they're entertaining themselves also, but they can hardly be faulted for that. It's just another day in the wild.
Humans are supposed to be intelligent enough to be able to distinguish when their behavior is hurting someone else and have a choice whether to engage themselves in it or not. Thereby making the ones that willfully choose to do so a-holes.
You can't be right or wrong imho, because that would imply an absolute, external moral you can look at and say 'yup, I was wrong there, see? I was actually supposed to do this'. Every person has to make their own morality.
Luckily, most people feel on a basic level it's wrong to cause pain, because we have empathy. Most of the evil in the world, imho stems from fear, and peoples overcompensating attempts to quell their fears. Fear of not being safe. Fear of being alone. Fear of not having enough. Fear of being ostracised.
If someone lacks empathy and hurts people or animals, that's a whole different matter. I find it terrifying to see, because I can't understand it.
I'd be hard pressed to say if a person with a clinical lack of empathy could even be considered human. I agree with what's been said here, that animals are inherently innocent because, though they may be violent and cruel, they have no malicious intent. Couldn't that same case be made for a sociopath then? If someone lacks empathy altogether, aren't they on some level innocent by default? Or perhaps not innocent by default because they might rationally know they've crossed a line, but if they are incapable of seeing why that line is there, why their act reaps universal disgust, are they truly evil people then?
I'm not defending animal cruelty at all btw. Just rambling about the human condition.
