Songs for Flute and Bass

A friend of mine is a pretty good flutist. We do some classical music for flute and cello.

Any suggestions for rock songs that have decent melody that he could play on flute and I could bass along.

Not rock, but one of my all time favorite Upright bass songs is all about bass and flute. Might suit you since you are doing some classical stuff.

I did Locomotive Breath at an open mic a few weeks ago. Full band, not just flute and me, but it went over really well. The flute player sang it, of course. My old jazz trio used flute a lot and we did Bouree occasionally and lots of jazz-adapted old pop stuff. Might look at some of the classic Bill Evans tunes to split the difference between classical and rock, maybe? Alice In Wonderland, Waltz for Debby, etc.

(you think I’m kidding. I once did an instrumental version of that tune with a jam band and the crowd full-voice sang along with no prompting. Total crowd pleaser)

This should be a good one. Try anything else with Colin Hodgkinson playing bass then ask your partner to get saxy. Doesn't get much better than this but playing CH's lines is a helluva challenge...
