Songs that left you speechless

I worked at a Bread and Roses Festival at the Greek Theater in Berkeley in the very early 90's when this record was released and she was pretty much a nobody. Before she played I saw this semi-cute little woman sitting at a dinning table backstage tuning her guitar and then she went out and slayed in her own way. She played this song and many others from Steady On and you could have heard a pin drop in the audience. She was memorizing. Shotgun is probably my favorite Shawn Colvin song. Nice choice.

Color me jealous. I can't even imagine how amazing this must have been. She's been one of my favorites since about the same time.

Cat Power - The Greatest
Mogwai - Cody
Mogwai - Take Me Somewhere Nice
Mogwai - Kids Will Be Skeletons
Mogwai - Burn Girl Prom Queen
Sigur Ros - Petur : This is actually called Viorar Vel Til Loftarasa.
Sigur Ros - Fer (not sure about this title) : I guess it's called Agaetis Byrjun. It's very pretty.
Sigur Ros - Alfosskor Song
Russian Circles - Xavii
Barzin - Over My Blue
Brand New - Jesus Christ
Death Cab for Cutie - Passenger Seat
Iron & Wine - Such Great Heights
Iron & Wine - Sodom South Georgia (PlayedLastNight.com)
Iron & Wine - The Trapeze Swinger (PlayedLastNight.com)
Iron & Wine - Resurrection Fern (PlayedLastNight.com)
Frank Black - Dog in the Sand
The Church - Under the Milky Way

These are all fantastic songs and I get chills thinking about them. They're all very chill.

I put PlayedLastNight.com after some of the Iron & Wine songs because I'm referring to some of the live performances. You can sample them and buy them on that site. They sound great and a lot of them have a ton of feeling and emotion. I like some of them a lot more than the album versions.

Jeff Buckley - The Way Young Lovers Do - from the EP Live at Sin e'...

When I found out he had died after his debut album, I talked to my local record store/head shop owner (yes, in 1994, they still sold records, and not for DJ's) and found out there was an 4 song EP out there somewhere that was impossible to find (you guys remember what it was like to find an obscure Cd before the internet, right?)

...anyway, i was doing some traveling for work at the time, and i would check out the local stores all over the country - after a year and a half of searching, I ran across it in Mobile, AL of all places - I took it back to my room, and the first three songs were live versions of songs I'd already heard.

But the last song was a Van Morrison cover, The Way Young Lovers Do, and it blew me away - the sadness of the song and the knowledge that all that talent had come to an abrupt end just overwhelmed me - it's the only time I can remember a song truly taking me somewhere emotionally without the influence of banned substances.

It was a powerful moment.

"So close" by Rhombus... If you're into dub/atmospheric music check this out! This area of music is one that I personally think New Zealand really excels at! Here's the link if you're interested..
Anyone listen to "The Alan Parsons Project"? "I wouldn't wanna be like you" has gotta be my favourite.
Also, Breathe by Pink Floyd, I'm pretty sure this song inspired me to play bass, still trying to figure out how though

A couple more came to mind...

Art of Noise - "Moments in Love" (Everything of theirs, but this is my favorite)
Yello - "The Rhythm Devine" (Everything of theirs, but this is my favorite)
Supreme Beings of Liesure - "What's the Deal" (really anything off of the "Supreme Beings of Liesure album")

It wasn't a song that made me speechless, but an album. When I got done listening to Dream Theaters Images and Words....yes I did listen to the whole thing is on sitting, I really was speechless. I wish they would go back to the style of music, this really heavy stuff that they are making is getting a bit out of hand.
