Songs you refuse to learn...

If I'm going to commit to joining a band, to me that means takign the good with the band. So if I were in a band and someone decided we just had to do a Mariah Carey song, I'd learn it. Then after the gig when it tanked, I'd raise objections to doing it again.

anything by:
The Grateful Dead
The Doors
Nickleback
Creed
Live
Incubus
all nu-metal/cRap metal bands or mainstream pop stuff from the 90's to now

I would rather not play then have to be a part of any of this stuff

I don't enjoy playing in cover bands so the situation wouldn't ever come up anyways...not saying that cover bands are bad, they are just not for me

As a musician and entertainer, I learn anything that may help entertain large crowds of bra-less young women. Anything else would be uncivilized.

Hmm Can't think of any. Since playing in this band we've started playing some country ( Gretchen Wilson, and others ). Songs I had thought I'd never like to play, or still don't even like to listen to. But what I've found is if you have a good band, more of the enjoyment of playing comes from watching the audience dance and sing along with songs, rather than focusing on what I like.

I'd rather play covers and have a packed dance floor of laughing dancing people than play interesting complex originals with everyone sitting in their chairs staring at you. THAT is one thing I've learned about myself. I enjoy a happy audience MORE than my personal satisfaction playing a song. It's not what I expected, but that's the way it is for me. Some of our songs I still don't like to listen to, but man they are a blast to play live because of the audience. If I want to impress myself, I'll sit in the basement and play along with Rush and Yes songs.
