Hey guys, I just got a Sony system off TB and I have a question or two about wireless. This is my first step away from a cable so bear with me.
First off, I don't notice any loss of tone and I love the cable length option. The only minor annoyance is there is an audible hiss when Im playing or when my noise suppressor is off when I'm not playing. I say it is only a minor annoyance because when the band fires up... you can't hear the hiss at all.
I noticed this at a rehearsal on Thursday and didn't play with it too much to try to fix it. Would changing channels fix this or is this just an accepted wireless fact of life? Or would power supply have anything to do with it? Or the wireless environment? (there were three wireless mic's too)

1st things 1st: are you using outboard effects IE compressors , chorus etc. what is your complete signal loop
If so I would 1st take them out the system and go bass/ wireless / amp and see if you still have noise. If no noise add and or adj effects chain.
I am using a simple effects chain. The loop is.... bass -> wireless -> noise suppressor input - noise suppressor loop send -> tuner -> tube overdrive -> noise suppressor loop return - noise suppressor output -> amp. (I have a few more pedals but this was my setup this weekend)
Im in the early stages of building a pedalboard so Im using the various power supplies that came with the pedals and a one spot to power the 9V's. Maybe a dedicated grounded power supply will help.

I just got one of these wireless units. I've been using it at home for a few days. It works great. Excellent sound, and the cable tone knob is pretty cool.
The only issue I had was the faint high pitched noise coming through the amp no matter what I tried. Different outlets, power adapters (12v, 9v), cables to the amp, turning off all computer equipment, etc. Nothing helped until... I covered the USB port on the transmitter pack with my thumb trying to make more noise or any difference. That made the noise go away! I immediately put 1 piece of electrical tape over the USB port, then 1 piece of copper shielding tape, another layer of each, then a final larger piece of electrical tape to cover it all. That worked great! The high pitched noise is gone!
I've read about this noise on some other reviews and people stated it was the difference between using the 9v and 12v adapter. That was not the case for me.
The USB port (which isn't even mentioned in the manual) was the cause.
Perhaps this will help some other owners of this wireless if they hear the same noise.

Does anybody have a chance to compare G50 with Sony ? G50 has much higher dynamic range -> 120 dB. Sony is below 100 dB. I would expect that this is an important ratio for bass guitar which used to be much more dynamic then standard guitar. In addition does enybody noticed similar noise in G50 ? What finally convinced you to buy Sony instead of much more popular G50 ?
I have owned both and presently use the sony system. Both are very good units but I prefer the Sony. 1 main reason is that I use the XLR to drive a signal to the board that the G50 does not have. I prefer the rcvr/ power supply option on the Sony also. Both are very good for bass application.
While cruising the internet late last night in bed on my iPad, I discovered this system and bought it from B&H for $257.54. Any other place I checked was $399. Then I came across this thread. Too bad I couldn't get in on the Guitar Center closeout. Hey maybe I'll stop by GC later and see if I get lucky. Two can better than one, for an average price of $208.

Thank you DJJazzV! I had that same high pitched noise and changing power supplies did not help. I put a piece of metal furnace tape over the usb port and that took the noise away. But, I'm still finding that the system adds a lot of hiss when used with my guitar amp and pedalboard that my Line6 does not. But when I went straight from my acoustic to an acoustic amp and no noise. I can't quite figure it out, but spoke with someone at Sony today and sent him a link to this thread. I also just picked mine up from ZZounds. I checked it and the firmware is the most current version 1.100.
The guy at Sony told me to return the system. Although I sent him links to this post and others about noise etc..., nobody at Sony knew anything about it. I'll try to exchange it once, but if the replacement does the same I'm done. I need to see if the custom cable I ordered for it is returnable....
I ordered one from the bay last night . I was considering a G30 but was concerned about the battery cover. I run sound from the stage and have been using a Samson Stage 55 to set the FOH. To me, it's really unuseable for actual performance . Hopefully, I can just leave it on the whole gig.
Can you make me a really short version of that cable, like 7"? I want to attach the Sony sender box to my basses with hook & loop material real close to the output jack, having the box on my strap has been of a pain.
Mine arrived and I've had a couple of hours to goof around with it. I've a/b'd with a cable and can't say it sounds exactly like my Monster 21' cable but it's close enough that I could leave it on for the entire gig.
I did something very stupid today. I put hook & loop pads on the transmitter to attach it to the side of my bass, but the kind I used did not hold well, so I pulled it off, which left some residual glue on the transmitter. I couldn't rub it off, so I got out that goo remover orange oil based stuff. It took some work, but I got the glue off, then when I wiped off the residue of the orange oil, I plugged in the transmitter and even though it powered up and showed the green transmit light, I got nothing to the amp. I made sure all my settings were correct, but no go. I even used a regular cable from the bass to the amp, which worked fine. So I just ordered a new transmitter from B&H for $168.
