Sound at The Ranch in Anaheim

It WAS jumping! We had such a good night the owner came back to the green room and tipped the band $100, EACH! He does that almost every time we play there. Have you ever head of such a thing?

We do enjoy playing there one weekend a month. I can't wait until they get the 6th floor event venue online. There will be full sound and a back line for that room too. Plus, the private parties will pay more $$$. :D

We'll be back there the first weekend of September. We have a limited number of spots on the band's guest list, so let me know.

And just for grins and giggles, here we are with the sound guy playing guitar while we have an impromptu jam session in the green room before the show.

Unfortunately, yes....when the band is being grossly underpaid and are not aware of it. Not to be a wet blanket (and I know I am) but I have seen exactly that in my travels, and...well...you asked :hmm:

Here we go again.

The Ranch, because it is such a nice venue, is the ONLY nightclub this band plays. We use it to showcase the band to clients. We play corporate events, private parties, amusement parks, casinos, fairs and other concert venues, etc.

I don't really like talking money. But since you asked so nicely, I made $130 a night. We get a meal both nights worth at least $20. We get drink tickets, I usually have 3 or 4 a night. At an average of $5 a pop that's another $20 worth of goods. I also got tipped $100. That's over $400 for the weekend. Add that to my other gigs last week and my paycheck was $1450 for the week. Now I don't think that's too bad for a weekend warrior country bass player. How much did you make last week? :p

Agreed!

Well, I guess Andrew has changed is attitude about how to deal with bands (?). My (our) experience was not that great….

Still, it is an impressive stage with the best of technologies!

no need to get defensive. For the record, though you might have assumed the implication, I never said that YOU AND YOUR GROUP were being taken advantage of. I only said that in my travels, the times when I've seen the stereotypical "greedy" club owner display some new found generosity was due to the criminally low compensation the band was working for at the onset, generally due to a lack of understanding how to negotiate a proper pay structure. That this is not the case in your situation does make it unique. I would have no way of knowing whether your compensation package at this venue is fair, low, high, or right on the money. I'd have to evaluate all of the contributing factors and do my own analysis...

Congratulations on your success and happiness playing country music. Really, I mean it...but no, I don't have any interest in talking money specifics, and I wasn't begging you to share yours, though that horse is out of the barn. No need to go down the "biggest dick in the room" path. I've made my share of money in the music biz on my own terms, and am currently comfortable with my personal financial situation, thank you very much.

It is rare that a nightclub's management take care of their bands in the way you describe. Cherish and enjoy it while it lasts.

Thank you. As you can probably tell, I've had this conversation before in this forum. I apologize for my frustration. I'm no rock star but when you've been doing this as long as I have there comes a time when you really have heard it all before. I shall endeavor to show more grace in the future.

Yes, I've played there a few times and noticed the power situation is not the most stable. Talk about "plug and pray". :p

But it's a cool little neighborhood honky tonk with friendly folks who like to have fun. I've never had a bad experience there. It's a long drive for me but at least the pay is lousy.
