Source Audio Bass Envelope Filter PRO (pics and clips)

They're actually not expensive; I picked up the bass distortion (which is really more of a synth-distortion than anything else) and it was... $129?? The Envelope Filter is more like $159. Check out TrueTone music. These things *are* pretty cool.
 
With the LFO, Range = Max, Frequency = Min, Mix = Max (pure wet signal), and an ultra-low Q you can use the BEF Pro as a tremolo effect of sorts. With Filter #2 the effect is very tremolo with only a mild hint of filtering, some of the other voices apply a much more noticeable filtering sound to the tone, all of which can be a really great effect.

Set Filter #2, crank the Q back up towards the default, apply more conservative Range and Frequency, and a sine LFO and you have a typical auto-wah as heard in the Chili Pepper's Falling Into Grace.

Didn't have time to bang out sound clips, but will try. The tremolo-like effect is excellent, including with some of the more wah/filtering voices and the more experimental LFO waveforms.

Your understanding of MIDI blows my mind.

All I've learned is from reading stuff on the internet and mostly trial-by-fire trying to get stuff to work like it should. Unfortunately as simple as MIDI really is (there's not a whole lot to it, and it's been around for 30 years) it often brings a lot of problems with it as a lot of gear cannot sync to clock reliably and drifts off the beat (my current BOSS gear for example) or doesn't have a MIDI THRU jack so you're off hunting for ways to figure out how to connect all the stuff.

I'm sure the MIDI aspects of most guitar/bass related gear appeal/apply to a very small subset of users.
 
I think MIDI's lack of appeal boils down to the time and effort one has to put into learning and setting parameters up. I don't have the patience,...but I could if I didn't have a bunch of DIY Electronics learning to do.
 
The "problem" with MIDI is that you need a MIDI controller of some sort, and a MIDI Clock source to sync everything. Then a way to connect it all. Well, then there's the programming but that's the easiest part and isn't much more difficult than creating a patch on your multieffects and saving it to Preset 1 to match with MIDI PC (patch change) #1.

For electronica (or any genre for that matter) bands that use a master sequencer (Ableton LIVE!, whatever) you can then use MIDI to automate almost everything. Send all devices a clock, send all the devices PC changes, script in MIDI CC (control change) to modulate levels, individual effects bypasses, control loopers, pretty much everything.... assuming your gear is MIDI aware and has enough exposed MIDI controls available.

How does this MIDI discussion pertain to the BEF Pro? Well, it has a ton of MIDI capability from changing presets, bypass, modulating the frequency, and more! You will also need a physical MIDI connection of some sort to program the 16 step sequencer, flash firmware, etc.

That power supply has 2 200ma outlets, and I am certain that those can be used to power the BEF Pro and the MWD Pro simultaneously (even with a wireless Hot Hand connected). You might also be able to use the 100ma outlets, but this is less certain. You will not do any damage by experimenting a bit. Noise and/or the power turning on and off will indicate that you are short on juice.
 
So the BEFpro can be used with an expression pedal to control the filter sweep, and you can control the cutoff (lowest) frequency like you can with the moog mf-101. Can you get it low enough so barely any sound is coming out- almost inaudible?

Also I think the ability to set the highest frequency cutoff could also be beneficial, so there is a defined frequency band that the filter sweeps through with highest and lowest values set instead of only the lowest frequency. Just a thought…
