source audio c4

Is there a way to determine a proper (data?) USB cable as opposed to a charger cable? My Mac isn't in a spot which is convenient to connect the C4 and a bass but I did so today and the desktop version seemed to be functioning exactly as intended - I could see the presets I had loaded on my pedal, I could modify those and 'save as', I could sample community presets and could modify those/burn them to my pedal. This was all while using the same USB cable as I've been using on the iPad - although with the iPad there is a camera adapter (genuine Apple) involved.

I have a question concerning the MIDI capabilities of the C4, which is giving me headaches.
I'm controlling the C4 via NeuroHub with a Morningstar MC8.

On the Morningstar:
-Preset A is 'everything off, just basic clean sound', so among other things I'm sending CC 102 with a value of 64, which should put the C4 in bypass.
-Preset B is a synthy bass sound where I recall preset 0 from the C4. I send CC 102 with a value of 127 to engage the C4 and afterwards I send CC104 with value 0 to recall that preset.
-Preset C is for volume swells via expression pedal. I do basically the same. CC 102 with valut 127 to engage and CC 104 with value 3 to recall preset 3.

Preset B and C work reliably, but Preset A does not. When I switch from Preset B to Preset A, the C4 remains active and I can't see why. What am I doing wrong here?

Firstly, why the two messages to engage C4 and then select the preset? You can do both with a single message as there’s a CC to switch to a preset in the engaged position.

The CC programmed to A the one which toggles the on/off state of the C4 or the one which puts it into bypass?

Can’t remember off the top of my head whether there’s a CC which does both engage and bypass (with bypass at 0-63 and engage at 64-127); could be that you are using that in which case you’re basically telling the pedal to engage every time.

You may need to program an engage message on toggle position 1 of preeer A and a bypass message on position 2. You’d then also need to make sure that pressing either preset B or C also puts preset A into toggle position two so the states stay in sync.

I'd like to omit toggling the pedal on/off, just in case that erratic button mashing leads to chaos.

My Preset A on the Morningstar is meant to tell every connected device to calm down.
The ML5 on (on Channel 1) is supposed to switch off Loops A-C and E and switch on Loop D.
The Strymon (on Channel 3) is supposed to recall the default preset, which is 0.
The C4 is supposed to switch into bypass mode.

Have you tried with using '0' as the value? 64 seems wrong, because the first half of numbers should be 0-63. It seems strange to have 65 numbers for disengage, and 63 numbers for engage. Using '0' and '127' are the safest.

Good spot. @rsmith601 this probably needs amending in the manual.

I'm using three channels, Channel 1 is the ML5, Channel 2 is the Neuro Hub and Channel 3 is the Strymon BigSky. All the devices are configured to listen on their assigned channel and this seems to work fine. I can see both Neuro Hub and C4 doing some LED blinking upon pressing the buttons that send messages.

I'm beginning to suspect this, too. I too prefer to use 0 and 127, but I had this auto-pasted from the Morningstar MIDI Library.

If using 0 fixes this it would probably be a good idea to look into getting Morningstar to fix their MIDI Library data. I'm pretty sure they have a process for submitting that kind of change.

What channel is your C4 set to? (For ease I set my C4 and hub to the same channel.) The C4 will only respond to messages sent on whatever channel it is set to.

Hi guys! I'm trying to use the Ampero Control as a MIDI controller with the C4, but I haven't been lucky so far. Have anyone tried that combo? Any suggestions? Also, I'm trying to program simple functions such as preset browse (increments and decrements), and other useful functionalities. Any shortcut? Thanks!

You need a midi control that can act as a usb midi host, which only the disaster area gen3 controllers and the Xsonic airstep can do that. Otherwise you need a usb midi host adapter (disaster area, Kenton, midiplus), or you’ll have to wait till the new midi adapter is ready.

Hi guys! I finally solved my C4 MIDI issues. It was simple once I got a clear idea. I programmed on switch one of the Ampero Control a recall for the first preset of the C4, so I can always go back to square 1! (Mode: SIngle, channel 1, CC 104, Data 0). On the second one the increase preset (Mode: SIngle, channel 1, CC 106, Data 0). On the third the decrease preset (Mode: SIngle, channel 1, CC 107, Data 0). And on the 4th switch a tap tempo (Mode: SIngle, channel 1, CC 93, Data 0). I'm also using the Source Audio Dual Expression Pedal, straight to the C4 via the Control Input jack. As simple as that. I hope anyone can use this info. Enjoy!

Looking for some help recreating this bass sound. Some posts i found online suggested a Korg MS-20 possibly.. I'm not a keyboard guy - any of you sonic wizards think this is possible on the C4?
