Had to cancel my birthday plans today due to being snowed in. Annoying as I was supposed to be picking up my custom Shuker bass.

On the plus side, I got to do a bit of C4 programming. I recently got to borrow a Yamaha DX7 so have been getting to grips with FM synthesis and wanted to bring some of what I’ve learned to the C4’s FM engine, particularly being able to replicate analogue style basis waveforms. I wasn’t able to accomplish everything due to some of the architectural quirks of the C4 (such as FM depth always being routed through an envelope) but I’ve managed to create a third (somewhat muted) sawtooth wave to make some big 3-saw sounds.

Also did some other FM basses.

Have posted the new patches to Neuro. Hope you enjoy them.
Hi QM, I have to ask...how's the new bass?
I really enjoyed your new "QM 3 Osc RAW Filtered 2" patch. I had a lot of fun with it and i've added it to my "holy 6" on my C4.

Hi, sadly wasn’t able to go out to get the bass as the snow didn’t clear enough. Might have to wait a couple of weeks now.

Although much of the weekend was a write-off, it wasn’t all terrible: my friend, in an incredibly generous gesture, has said I can keep the DX7 as a birthday gift! I spent a bit more time programming it yesterday and have managed a pretty nice bass patch.

Glad to hear you like the C4 patches. Those that do the three saw thing could be used as the basis for a lot of other stuff.

Really excited to check out some of the new patches from @Quatschmacher - thanks as always for your amazing work. Hope to try them out in the next few days - I use them on guitar so I sometimes will go in, fix the input level for my gear, and pitch down a few of the voices -1 (if necessary). But it generally works quite well.

Be careful pitching down the FM ones though - these use the input signal as a modulation source so if you change the pitch of the sine waves, the pitch relationships will get thrown off and they’ll sound very different.

Hello everyone, finally registered today after lurking for way too long.

Anyways, reason for signing up is that I've developed a windows command-line console application for the C4 Synth pedal, which some might be interested in, called Sa-C4.
Essentially, it is an application for manipulating the C4 sans Neuro Desktop.
Features include; Switching presets (patches), Adjusting individual preset Controls in real-time, extracting preset(s) from the pedal, uploading presets to the pedal, Listing presets from SourceAduio available for download, Downloading and storing/saving a preset to the pedal directly from SourceAudio, and more.

Sa-C4: Upload files for free - sa-c4.7z - ufile.io

Note that Sa-C4 will not function unless a C4 is detected, this is intended.

Feedback welcomed and appreciated.

Sounds interesting...it would nice to see this tool in action. You should post a video

Finally got around to getting it yesterday but still didn’t get any time with it until today. It’s lovely. Will sound a lot nicer once the brand new flatwounds have broken in; they always sound horrid when new.

Treated myself to a brand new HX Stomp and got rid of everything else (except the C4 of course)!! Any tips or tricks to use these 2 together?

My plan is to wire it up using the 4-cable method (I love love love my Aguilar AG700) and run the C4 in the effects loop of the HX. I plan to use the SA-168 MIDI adapter and TouchOSC to control it via iPad at gigs.

Anyone got any hacks or shortcuts to share?

I love using the HX for stereo-spread effects on synth sounds for recording purposes. I have been using the Dual Pitch engine with some pretty minimal detune on each side in the HX to accomplish this. You can either use the C4 in stereo or use the Dual Pitch to create the stereo image. For mono signal path you can put a compressor before the C4 (helps for me) and amps/cabs/modulations/delays/reverbs after the C4. You can also play around with stacking multiple harmonizers and other wild stuff. There are tons of possibilities!

Does anyone have any C4 settings that give a quasi delay/verb/chorus kind of sound? I'm wondering if I could get a tone that is in the ballpark that allows me to kick my C4 off of my board.
Have you tried typing “chorus” into the Neuro search and filtering for C4 patches?

I’ve done some pseudo chorus and slapback reverb on the C4, imaginatively labelled “chorus” and “slapback”.

Missed this C4-specific thread and asked in the SASS thread. I can't seem to get my input calibration to work. No red light, it just stays green from top to bottom. Passive bass > tuner (with buffer) > Atlas > C4 > etc.

Tried with just the C4 on and have tried with the Atlas and C4 on.

Minor victory to report - I've successfully set up my SA168 MIDI adapter between my Boss MS-3 and my C4. Everything actually worked exactly as expected - I was doubting my technical capabilities more than the SA gear but a quick peek at a video on YT regarding the Boss MIDI setup and I was good to go. I can't find any details on this though - is the red light on the adapter supposed to be flashing constantly?

This is good news because I'm hoping to use my new SA168 to run the C4 and my new HX Stomp from my iPad! (using the MIDI thru on the 168 to tee off to the HX).
