Source Audio EQ2

Just a question. If you are cutting twenty bands, aren't you just turning down the volume? and then boosting like three or so frequencies? If it works for you, that's great. Seems like a lot of work.

There's different Q factor values going on across the bands too but all fairly tight and all cutting. I'll upload it this weekend hopefully, so can have a look/listen see what ya think.
 
I play in a theater pit, and the room has some resonant peaks. They don't bother me, but as I'm always being told to turn down, I thought it would be good to notch then.

With the EQ2, what's cool is I can have notched signal for my monitor in the pit, and send a different (un-notched) signal out to the house. It couldn't be easier. I can send different levels to house vs my monitor. ALSO, on occasions when I need to play ac guitar for a little bit-- I can have rather extensive EQ for the gtr and send different levels to the house as well easy to switch presets by press-and-hold. The EQ2 is stupidly versatile. It did take a few attempts before I figured out how to properly configure it.

Right I've uploaded 3 presets of my experiment into the resonant peaks. I have configured my method used in E standard, E flat standard and D standard 4 string bass tunings.

The signal path goes into input 1 then out of the output 1 and Into input 2, then out output 2 to pedals/amp. So will need a patch lead between channel 1 and 2 on the unit.

The goal ended up being to clean up the low end frequency peaks and make the sound cleaner, more punchy and compressed. It might sound subtle but it is quite the effect especially when turned up loud.

Turning off the eq2 it is quite a noticeable change. For me the bass sounds flabby and not as precise and defined or tight in the low end.

Anyway would be cool to get some feedback on this.

Ok, I tried them. Eq2 first in chain into my compressor and further into my chain. I didn’t quite like how the clean tone went, it felt just a little thin.
Then I tried it with different drives, and boy did it sound good!
In that setting it tightened everything up great and turning it off made it sound flappier.
So yes, it does work. Not sure I like how the clean tone sounds, but that’s just my preference.
Gonna try and test in band rehearsal next week to see how it goes.

Cheers for the feedback Mr. Voodoobass. Forgot to say I'm using mine at start of the chain. Might make some difference but maybe not. Interesting to hear the drives tightened things up. I do have some always on drive in my set up though just used as very slight saturation

I do something similar, but in a much more simplified way. Put a hpf around 60hz to cut away all mud, then some slight cut at a few places(35, 125, 200-250, 500). Then a lpf at around 4k.
It tightens things up both clean and dirty, but your settings worked slighty better for my dirt tones.
I guess if you always have some slight hair to it, it might work better.
Then again, it could just be how my bass behaves.

Out of interest what was the EQ patch like without your compressor engaged?
 
I have my EQ2 on order now, it should arrive tomorrow or the next day. A quick question - I intend to run my upright/double bass through it. Is the EQ2 output hot enough to run the power-amp of a bass amp if I send it to the effects-loop return?

(I am going to jazz jams with my upright. Many have backline, but the backline is usually electric bass guitar amp. I’d like to run into the effects loop return on unfamiliar amps, to avoid the amp pre-amp colour.)
 
There are two places to add clean gain. Each of the two EQ channels as a GAIN control. And the glowing blue knob is more gain on top of that.

If that boosts the noise from your piezo, you can use the EQ2's gate.

That said, you could just use the backline's input, and do a little dialing on the EQ2 to compensate. I get what you mean. I play electric and just did a gig borrowing someone's backline and it sounded weird.

Sounds really good and some nice patches there. I've downloaded 3 onto my pedal (tone 1,2 and 4) only thing I've done to them is adjust the gain to match the dB drop and put them all into split mode and parallel routing.

These kinds of patches are what I'm currently looking for to have different sounds to my main tone I have, so was good timing you uploading them. Niceone.
 
I am a little confused about using gain vs input trim vs volume.

When I boost frequencies on the EQ2 and want to set/match unity gain, do I reduce gain (or input trim?) or volume? (I'm guessing volume).

Am I correct that when using a harmonic booster pedal before the eq, I reduce the gain on the EQ2?

What is the difference between gain and input trim on the EQ2?
 
The EQ2 manual leaves us to guess.

Input trim is certainly a way to adjust the level pre-EQ, pre-gate, pre-limiter, also to balance levels between in 1 & 2. Like you, it would be helpful to know some use cases for when to use the input trim.

I think the appropriate way to adjust for unity after boosting & cutting bands, is to use each channel's gain.

The blue Master Output knob is stereo, post-everthing, and it goes from silent to +12 dB, so it's very useful for quick changes to the overall level for both outs.
