To anyone using MIDI Designer:

I'm having a problem. I've also contacted the right channels with MIDI Designer (their support e-mail and Facebook page), but I'm trying to exhaust every resource. I don't know if I'm using enough similar things to you or not, of if you've encountered this before, but I thought I would pick your brain. If you've never encountered this, no problem.

I using an evaluation copy of MIDI Designer 12 with the intent of upgrading to Pro. Until last night, I hadn't actually connect it to anything. I connected to my pedalboard last night and I ran into a snag. It was sending successful messages (PC and CC on various channels) for just a few minutes before those messages stopped working.

Here's the setup:
---MIDI Designer on iPad Air 2
---Lightning to USB Camera Kit Adapter (genuine Apple, not third party)
---M-Audio UNO USB-MIDI Adapter
---into pedalboard

Here is other relevant information:
---Whenever I try to send a command in MIDI Designer, there is a red light in the upper right hand corner
---The UNO power light is on, but the light that says it is receiving data is not on
---I think I have everything set up properly under "config"; MIDI Designer still "sees" the UNO and MIDI Out is selected
---The connection works with MIDI Commander on my Android phone; the only difference is the device (iPad vs. Android phone) and the OTG cable (Apple Lightning vs. USB OTG), but clearly the UNO is working

My conclusion is that MIDI Designer stopped talking to the UNO, but it did work for a few minutes. Any suggestions? Maybe "reset" this connection somehow?

Just a comment on the power supply questions. 5 SB2 pedals plus Hub + HH3 is right at the edge. Most of the time it works. We have built many boards this way. However, sometimes it is right at the edge and the HH3 causes noise when not connected. The way to fix this is to make sure the pedal that is powering the HH3 has enough current. You can experiment by putting the SA supply on that pedal and see if the noise goes away.

@Adamixoye I'd like to know how to resolve this problem too. I get that same problem, it just stops recognizing devices. In fact that's a large part of the reason why I stopped using iPad effects - when they work they're not bad, but the iOS was just way too unreliable and kept crashing/stopped recognizing my interface/USB MIDI devices, etc.

Used to use it with an Alesis iOdock for effects, now I'm just using it with a CCK to send MIDI stuff occasionally, what would happen is if I reboot everything and start again, sometimes (not all the time) it will recognize the device and send normally. If it stops sending, I haven't found a way to get it to start sending again until I reboot everything a few times. But clearly the guys on the Talkbass iOS thread manage to get reliable performance so... might be good to ask around there.

One thing I suspected for a while is whether it's sending enough power to power the interface/whatever might be connected to it that needs power. But I don't think it's that likely.

Could I confirm, when you say 5 SB2 + HH3, what power supply are you using for that setup?

Played them all today and loved them!
So jealous! Wish I was at NAMM to try them out.

@Nic. I fixed the problem today with a forced restart (not a regular one). We'll see how it holds up long term. It's not like my MIDI Commander setup with Android was 100% reliable either, and in terms of what I can create, MIDI Designer makes MIDI Commander seem like a monkey with a crayon.

@Adamixoye yeah when I first started MIDI Commander I was surprised at the lack of functionality. I don't need such detailed functionality, but still...

When you say forced restart, what are you referring to? Holding the home and lock buttons until it restarts?

Yes. Apparently that is different than holding the just lock button and then pressing "turn off" on the screen---that's a "regular" restart. I didn't know that before yesterday. (I'm new-ish to iPads specifically.)

On another note, I have another MIDI question that is more directly Source Audio related---perhaps @TheSleeve or @ncabral can answer. Is there a more detailed version of the table at the end of the Hub manual that discusses the MIDI CC#'s for the various SB2 pedals? For example, the Manta's effect type is (I believe; doesn't totally matter for this example) CC#45. So the 0-127 range covers 24 effect types in extended mode. I was wondering if there is a table of what values correspond to each type? Or can I pretty reliably just divide by 24 (128/24 = 5.3333) and say that 0-5 is type 1, 6-10 is type 2, etc.?

values 0 to 23 correspond to types 1 to 24, and values 24-127 do nothing.

I am frustrated. I programed a few new sounds for the weekend gig. I used the HUB manager and saved the new patches to the locations I wanted. I get to the gig and do a quick run through "good thing I did" and two of the presets vanished?:crying: I tried unplugging the HUB and plugging it back in and still no presets? I am baffled. All other previous presets are fine. Just the new ones gone. If I create a preset without using the manager I never have a problem.
Anyone ever had this problem?? HELP!

Have you been in contact with SA Support? Probably best to contact them and have them help you out.

I had a big problem with the Hub and saving presets a few months back. After some thorough troubleshooting with the support staff, I thought I was going to have to send it in, but as a last resort, SA sent me a new firmware update and it fixed everything.

Ok I will do that tomorrow. Did you contact via phone? Thanks

[email protected] is the best, since all the support/engineering team sees it. I am good with high level stuff, but I am need help for deep stuff. You can always come to me and complain if you are not 100% happy. Happy SASS members=good business.
