Source Audio Sorcerers Society (S.A.S.S) Part 3

I've followed this thread for a while and I've seen questions asked about midi mouse and one control geckos, but has anyone had experience with using damage area midi controllers with a source audio hub? Not sure it's possible. I have recently got a hub, and have a DMC-3xl Gen2 controlling a couple H9's. It be great to be able to send commands to the Hub too.

Anything that sends midi PC messages will work.

The only reason the Gecko and Mouse get talked about is they are the cheapest options for those just starting with midi.

I would point out that MIDI Designer and an Uno by M-Audio combined are cheaper than a Gecko. But otherwise your point is a good one.

ETA: this presumes you already have an iOS device, otherwise it is definitely not cheaper. :)

Hey guys, my HH3 is behaving in a very weird way. I turn on the ring and it blinks as if it is searching for the receiver but no matter if the receiver is on before or after the ring, and if I power it by Sensor cable or transformer it never connects.

I have tried reseting the controller and also have fully charged the ring, no effect.

I left the ring on over night to fully discharge and then recharge, the strange thing is that when I plugged the charger, it did not blink fast like usually, it started to blink slowly like it was trying to connect. I'll have to check again because I got an important call and was no able to look at this properly yesterday

Any ideias?

I have already sent an email to SA

so my board has officialy been sourcerized but sadly in the process I realized that my voodoo lab iso5 does not put out the required 200ma for the soundblox pedals so I guess I need to get a better power supply.
im thinking of getting a voodoo pedalpower 4x4, I need to power 3 or 4 soundblox pedals plus the hub, midi mouse and my sansamp, any sugestions?

Hi gpx1200,

The Voodoo Lab 4x4 would work perfectly for your current setup, and you would even have an extra 9V@100mA output (when using 4 Soundblox Pedals). ;)

Had my first band practice with the bass OFD. I like it a lot -- one channel set on light overdrive (power stage) and the other set on fuzz (Octavia model). I brought along my Xotic BB (itself a replacement for a dead bassdrive) and B:assmaster to compare, and although the sounds aren't exactly the same, they are just as good. There are things the b:assmaster can do that nothing else can, but I'm not sure in a dense mix that will matter. The Xotic is just a great pedal, but I can get very close to the low gain setting I like with the power stage model with a little clean blend and extra high EQ (oddly, the TS9000 isn't very close even though both are supposedly modelled on tube screamers, which just goes to show it's better to use your ears).

Now, here's the question. I am still trying to figure out how presets work. Let's say I'm with the band and need a little more bass or volume, or want to turn the noise gate on or off, but don't want anything else to change. How do i do that? It seems like if I change one thing, but the knobs are in a different place because I messed with the other channel, the preset saves the new knob positions as well. I also was getting huge volume jumps trying to get the fuzz level right. What am I missing here? I love the preset idea but as of yet, it's not happening for me.

Thanks!

No, you should be okay to reach down and turn off noise gate. When you go to that preset, regardless of knob position they are at the preset setting. For instance just to adjust a preset you often find when you first start turning a knob, say louder, it actually jumps down in volume because the preset is farther clockwise on the dial than where you started turning from. You almost have to "activate" a knonb or button by pressing or turning it to effect your preset.
Did that make any sense?

Thanks. I'll give that a try. One other thing -- is there any reason I can't run the pedal off a more powerful power supply slot? Like 9v 400ma? Or will that fry it? I'm just trying to put together a board with different digital pedals and a single power supply. This one and my Ditto x2 both need between 100 and 200ma, and I may get another pedal with power demands in that range.

If voltage and polarity are right then too much current (mA) is OK. It only draws what it needs.

I'm afraid that didn't work for me, I get "not a valid Win32 program" when I try to run the v2.0.5 Hub Manager after installation. (I have Windows XP, if that is a factor). I went back to 2.0.1 and that's fine.

I recently got a hub. I also have the same problem: desktop running XP (SP3), and get the "not a valid Win32 program" when I to launch v2.0.5 Hub Manager.
Is there a fix for XP? (SA told me they are running W7 and W8) If not, is 2.0.1 still available, and where can I find it?

Thanks.

This is correct, given one condition: the supply must be regulated. Very important! ;)
Some multi-output power supplies have a mix of regulated outputs as well as unregulated outputs, and it is important that Source Audio products are always connected to the regulated ones.
