Source Audio Sorcerers Society (S.A.S.S) Part 3

Slowly returning to my pedal board after a long hiatus... I don't necessarily need any new toys but I'm watching Ultrawave videos and wondering if it makes "sense" to sell my Aftershock and replace it with a UW. Assuming the UW can do all the same sounds I'd theoretically gain features and lose none, right?

EDIT - I realized this question was probably asked multiple times throughout this thread, going back and trying to catch up on things... but if someone has an answer don't be shy to share!

I am still using my aftershock, but not nearly as much as my UW: way more flexible, especially for recalling via MIDI. As of now I just have my AS at the end of the chain for a gritty boost that I can turn on/off via midi

It’ll depend on how much interest you have in building drive sounds from scratch. The Aftershock is more of a highly tweakable “greatest hits of drive” while the Ultrawave is a toolbox and lumber, go build a house.

New power supply arrived! Swapped my Truetone CS6 for a Cioks DC7. I Can finally get everyone on the little board. The Grip is a really cool way to attach the supply to the board. Nice touch.

After the DMC Micro update there is tons of flexibilty. I can save 99 presets to the Micro using combinations of the pedals in B-D locations. With names too! I can control the individual banks; A-Hub, B-C4, C-UW and D-Atlas with the Micro. Since the Micro cant control another pedal, I saved individual and multi-pedal patches using the Aftershock to the Hub scenes (A bank). You can see i use little cheat sheets for each band, otherwise I would never remember all of them, lol..

Being able to swap an entire group of pedals and knob positions with the Hub/Micro is amazing. Late to the party as always, but at least I'm here and didn't break anything on the way in. :roflmao:

Well, looks like a 5 Pin MIDI cable solved it. Here are the results of my trouble shooting.

- EQ2 emits MIDI noise when connected ONLY to hub via TRRS (using input/output 1)
- Swapped out cables to move wireless unit away from EQ2, no affect on noise

Only drawback here using the MIDI cable is that I lose HUB functionality with the EQ2. Not a big issue for me as I have my EQ usually set up to act on its own so I'll store my EQ presets on the pedal instead of the hub.

When you get a chance, you should try disconnecting other cables from the Hub (while remaining plugged into the EQ2) to see if you can narrow down the cause.

Yep, not exactly a problem for me in my setup since I don't really use the EQ2 in tandem with any effects (yet).

Looking for a multi button MIDI controller that has the MIDI Host built in so that I can run both an Eventide H9 and a Source C4. I know about the Disaster Area Designs controllers, but I only have about 5 3/4" of room on my board widthwise and their larger controllers are all wider than that.

The Morningstar MC6 appears to be perfect, but no MIDI Host as far as I can tell.

Trying to avoid a separate MIDI Host box or the Neuro Hub if possible. I'm aware of the new thingy that Source Audio is putting out soon that will help solve this, but I'm kind of in need of a more immediate option if possible.

The DMC-4 and DMC-3 are both smaller than that and have MIDI Host. The Morningstar controllers are far more capable though, so IMO they are worth the need for an extra box (maybe you can fit it under you board? That’s where my Hub is)

I was hoping for something with more buttons so that I could pull up a few common presets that I use instead of having to scroll through a smaller controller to get to what I need. Otherwise, the H9 will send out MIDI PC messages and I have the Barn 9 aux switch, so I could really just get the Disaster Area micro.ghost and should be able to control the C4 with the Eventide. It's just a bit more of a tap dance.

Maybe I'll do that to start, then grab the Morningstar DC6 later when I have the funds. I was just hoping for a single box resolution.

With any of the DMC controllers you have a "Preset Mode" that scrolls through presets internal to the DMC that can each have saved states and messages for each MIDI pedal attached. So you can arrange DMC presets by setlist and you only need to press a single button to scroll to the next needed sound (which can be any mix of the H9 and C4 and any of their internal presets, consecutive or not) as long as you have them saved in the DMC in the order you need to access them. Its not the greatest solution, but for your parameters without a hub of some sort you are pretty much tied to either using a DMC controller or an iPad or similar on a stand. The MC6 or MC8 are definitely far more streamlined and capable than the DMC controllers, but you just need some sort of box to make it happen (I assume the Source Audio solution will also take up some space, so there may not be much reason to wait on moving to the MC6 if space for some external hub is the only thing holding you back). Maybe at some point Morningstar will figure out how to implement 1/4" MIDI control of the C4 the way DMC have (something I've been meaning to request of them)
