Source Audio Sorcerers Society (S.A.S.S) Part 3

While I'm at it.... another HUGE idea that I would like to see implemented across the entire range is using a different color LED for the bypass lights. All of the green lights are confusing to glance at and read. If the bypass switch colors were blue or purple (not red because of the option LEDs) they'd be easy to glance at on the fly.

What would be even cooler would be multicolour LEDs that you can just set as part of the scene settings via the hub. So, for one setting, you make the LED green. For another, red, or yellow, or something else. Maybe use RGB LED arrays so we can choose just the right shade of purple?

I know it's been discussed (I've searched and read), but I have a couple of questions about the Gecko and Mouse. I would love to have all of the answers laid out together in one place, and I'm sure other Hub users would as well!

How much "better" is the Gecko than the Midi Mouse? Does the "Store" button on the Gecko work with the Hub so I don't have to bend down and press the Hub's button? Does the upside down MIDI jack on the Gecko a huge inconvenience with cables? Does the preset function of the Gecko work well? Can you speed scroll on both?

Going to invest in a Hub soon. I guess it was inevitable.

I don't own a Hub, but I too am looking into one and I think I can answer at least part of your question.

I don't know what the Gecko's "store" button does, but based on how I understand that these things work, there is no way it can replace the Hub's store function.

Basically, the Hub has 128 presets/"scenes". It needs an external MIDI controller that sends it a MIDI PC ("Program Change") number (1 through 128, or 0 through 127 depending on convention) to switch between presets. If the Hub already has a preset/"scene" associated with that MIDI PC number, all of those parameters on the various pedals will load. If you tweak the pedals and then hit "save" (or "store" or whatever it's called) on the Hub, the Hub stores all of those settings to the "scene" of the last MIDI PC number it received. Now anytime you send that MIDI PC number, those settings will be loaded. To save a scene in a different preset, you would have to load a new MIDI PC, get your settings, and then store from the Hub.

Whatever the Gecko "store" does, I don't think it can replace all of the proprietary Source Audio stuff that the Hub does.

Right, the Gecko's "Store" function is used to program it's own program change quick-access mode. It does not store presets to the Hub- youmneed to push the button on the Hub itself or use a computer hooked up to it via usb.

As regards Gecko vs. Mouse, I believe the only differences are:
- Midi mouse can be set to scroll and instantly change program changes just holding down one footswitch
- Gecko has a 2nd mode where you can set up 8 'most used' program changes for quicker access (yes, this feature works well with the SA Hub)

The midi connector being "upside down" really shouldn't be an issue with a straight cable. With a right angle midi cable, you need to make sure your cable is oriented for your own setup.

I'm having an issue with my Reverb. All of the sudden, it stopped accepting my preset commands from the hub. Light's on and responds when I hit Scan, but nada. Even on newly made scenes. Anyone ever have an issue like this?

Edit: Figured it out, but adds in new issues. I swapped spots on the Hub and it looks like my 3rd port is dead. Works fine on all other ports, very strange. Nothings been jostled, even reset my firmware to make sure

Another quick question while I'm on my lunch break and looking at my board! Suppose I have two custom presets saved to the two switches on each of my SB2 pedals. I then load a custom scene from my Gecko, that doesn't have those sounds. Can I hit a preset (say a long delay instead of the short one saved on the scene), thereby editing the patch live? I realize it wouldn't save it, and that's ok.

Would this work?

That is the power of a Hub/SB2 solution over a menu based multi-effects system: your knobs and footswitches from each effect are all right there when you need to tweak. Yes, you can always modify a "scene" when you are in one. It will not be over written in the Hub unless you do so.

I don't have one yet but will probably try one of these:
[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Or, if I stumble on some more money, one of Disaster Area's similar sized pedals.

For the time being I'm using an old Roland FC-50 foot switch to experiment with the SA pedals.

I know most people are looking for a pedal-based footswitch solution, but I recently started experimenting with a Samsung tablet in USB host mode (with USB adapter) running into a M-Audio UNO USB-MIDI adapter, using the MIDI Commander Android app. Works fantastic.
