Source Audio Sorcerers Society (S.A.S.S) Part 3

I'm not aware of any...you can also select buffered OR true bypass on all of the pedals, as well.

Thanks, I'll need to research the best practices for buffering (IIRC, you only need to buffer the first pedal ?)

In this case, I'm assuming/hoping that with a wet/dry balance-- the dry will be time-aligned with the wet, so bypass settings aren't relevant.

Even if I have all six pedals enabled (6X A-to-D-to-A), I'm holding out the hope that the total latency will be comparable to other single-conversion multi-fx.

I found that leaving the thinking (worry or hand ringing) to Source Audio has worked out just fine. :cigar:

Latency won’t be an issue as most of our pedals are digital dry. With the exception of collider, ventris and nemesis adt. There’s some exceptions in those pedals, but they’re mostly analog dry thru. Latency is more of an issue with external devices than and syncing everything up when running parallel systems, not when running effects in series like on a pedalboard.

Our first pedals were buffered bypass. We always thought from a technical standpoint that, all things considered, buffered bypass was the best way to go for the vast majority of pedal users. Well, that was a dumb decision. True bypass became a big marketing thing. So, we made our pedals switchable to support both. I can make a big argument that switchable is far better than true bypass alone. But spreading fear of non-switchable true bypass is harder than the marketing of true bypass back when it became popular.

Likewise, when we came out with Nemesis, we thought analog dry path was much more trouble than it was worth. The vast majority of those who demand it would never actually know the difference in a blind test. Further, none of them have considered what it takes to store the dry level settings when presets are involved. If you think about it, you need to have a very high quality digitally controlled analog mixer. How many of you who demand ADT spend the time to find out exactly how ADT is implemented in your pedals? What is the SNR of that signal path? Is the dry mix fixed in presets? Its much easier to ask for ADT and not worry about the details. I am certain that some of our competitors cut important corners with their ADT solutions, but no one calls them out. The only ones called out at the non-ADT pedals! Its issues like this that led us to digital bypass on Nemesis (at first) and I suspect the same was true for Eventide and the H9. But, ADT marketing was not to be underestimated. We made it so on Ventris, Collider, and Nemesis ADT.

As far as I know, Nemesis is the only pedal in the world that exists in both ADT and non-ADT form. It would be fascinating to conduct a blind test. My guess is that blind tests would back up my suspicions around ADT being completely over blown.

There are some cases (studio work) where a good case for ADT can be made.

OK, I can go back to work now..... :)

I hope that's just an old enclosure they had lying around to house a new prototype in. 5 pin MIDI seems like a step backwards at this point. I think they're new platform is fantastic (Artifakt), but it may not be enough to house a dual processor pedal if that's the case with this one. Reasonable to assume they'd fill the pitch shifter/harmonizer hole in the line up, but I'll bet they don't just yet. I'm hoping they'll want to be sure to do it leagues better than anyone else before they do it at all.

As a bass player, I hope it's not reverby/shoegazy nonsense. There's enough of that crap out there. If a pedal doesn't understand percussiveness and dead notes, it's of little use to me. Everything is rhythm, and rhythm is everything. Here endeth the lesson.

Ya know...considering how truly AMAZING SA offerings are, in total, so far, and most recently the Artifakt and the updated Nuero Editor 3...

I kinda wonder if the gang is trying to expand the congregation beyond the True Believers and just being present with the whole "dog and pony show" for those who don't know all about SA in the detail that many here do?

And just having the on hand tech support to demo stuff and answer questions is a great idea, too! :woot:

*Nice Hiwatt's, as well...!
