hi, new source audio pedals for me! orbital modulator and ofd bass (if is possible update the main list, thanks!)

now i have a question: in my pedalboard every pedal is connected with the power socket that is IN the pedalboard case, so this means a lot of weight, and space lost... i've heard about multiple power supply, but i don't understand all about the mA! so... if i want to power 5 SA soundblox 2 and the hub, what i have to do (buy)?

OneSpot w/ daisy chain, Godlyke Powerall w/ daisy chain, Voodoo Labs Pedal Power (multiple version), MXR DC Brick, and many others. One plug into the wall, multiple outlets to pedals.

Each SA pedal draws about 140ma - so add them all up and add the Hub at 40ma - and make sure your power supply is rated for more than the total.

I power my entire board - everything on it…4 SA pedals, hub, midi controller, six other pedals…with a Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2+
 
mA is the an amount of power draw each pedal needs to function properly. If you use say a one spot, you add up all your pedals mA and see if it's under the rating total of the power supply. The one spot can handle I think 1700(?) I am using one for 2 SA pedals, line 6 m5, tuner, and the hub. No noise most of the time, only when there's dirty power.

If you can afford and want a more powerful supply, anything that has over 140 per circuit will work.

"daisy chains" vs "power bricks": if you have personal experience, which one is better?
i made a little research on the web, if i understood correctly, daisy chains cost less, you have only one power cable in the pedalboard, but you can have some background noise; instead with power bricks i suppose that there isn't background noise, lot of power cable in the pedalboard, and it costs more than daisy chain

is that right?

In oversimplified terms this is correct.

Daisy chains---more likely to have noise, restricted to a single voltage, arguably messier cables, cheaper
Dedicated bricks---more options, isolated and more likely to have less noise, simply cable management, more expensive

YMMV though. Lots of people are really happy with the noise/neatness of how they use daisy chains.

A second hand -guitar- OFD just went on sale on a local guitar forum for US$70! Jumped on it, picking it up tomorrow to see how well it works with bass! If it loses lows I'll just run it through a Boss LS2 or something...

By the way, in the OFD thread someone mentioned that the EQ settings are

Low: shelving at 230Hz
Mid: 700Hz
High: boost is shelving at 2000Hz, cut is a moving low pass filter that goes down to 550hz

Is this true for both bass and guitar OFD? What about the MWBD?
The key thing to remember is that Bob tweaked the bass pedals with basses and the guitar pedals with guitars and this process took months. Knowing filter numbers does not tell the full story.
 
Hey guys, wondering if any of my NYC people can help me out. I'm playing a show tonight at Best Bar (355 West 41st) and just realized I left my Hot Hand ring in at Funkadelic on Wednesday rehearsal. I called and it's gone (which I expected). Anyone in the area willing to come see the show (I'd get you on the list)? I use the HH on the second song and that would be it.

Doesn't the PP2+ only have two outputs with more than 100mA? That's the primary reason why I didn't get a true isolated pedal power - I'm afraid it wouldn't be enough to power. I guess you won't harm the pedal with less than 140mA, but I recall I underpowered my manta for a period of time and was wondering why the distortion kept sounding muddy. I might have been wrong about that, but when I stopped chaining the power supply it was okay so I assumed it was because it didn't have enough power.

Got it! I understand there's a lot more to it than just those numbers, but knowing the numbers would help me understand the EQing process a bit more to help me sit in the mix. It'll also help when I'm trying to copy my settings over from my MWBD pro to my incoming MWBD SB2. I don't intend to make the guitar OFD sound like the bass OFD, I'm treating this like how some guitar pedals work well on bass.

I must say the guitar OFD works surprisingly well on bass, even without blend. I worked out a low gain tube drive crunch preset this afternoon and left it on throughout rehearsal today. My tone would basically be that solo, run into a foldback on the MWBD, or that foldback plus low pass wobbles on my manta. My bandmates were impressed with the sound. Looks like I've to upsize to a PT2 earlier than expected now...

Interesting. Would like to hear how that would sound. Definitely lots of possibilities there. I wonder if the Hub allows for controlling more than one of the same SB2 pedal.
But you haven't found a straight-up heavy/fuzz tone that works, you feel you need to stack it with a tube sound?
Interesting question. And, I'm not trying to be negative on the twin OFD idea. I am actually thinking about how cool it would be right now :) Just very interested in any out of the box thinking.
Same here. Given the two presets, I'm just curious trying to understand why he's convinced he needs two.

2nd OFD incoming from The Great White North. I'm expecting a stork to drop my son off any day now, so it may be a few weeks before I get to play with it. Still, I'm looking forward to it!

Treble – cut, one pole low pass filter with variable frequency, from 20 kHz to 700 Hz.
boost, standard shelver, freq = 2160 Hz.
Bass – cut, one pole high pass filter, variable freq, from 230 Hz to 8 Hz.
boost, shelver, freq = 230 Hz, but with special HP to reduce boost below 50 Hz.
Mid – 700 Hz, 2 octaves wide.

OFD bass:
Treble – cut, one pole low pass filter with variable frequency, from 20 kHz to 550 Hz.
boost, standard shelver, freq = 2160 Hz.
Bass – shelver, freq = 230 Hz.
Mid – 700 Hz, 2 octaves wide.

MWBD:
Treble – cut, one pole low pass filter with variable frequency, from 20 kHz to 550 Hz.
boost, standard shelver, freq = 2160 Hz.
Bass – special two pole shelver (steeper slopes), freq = 230 Hz, and HP for reduced
boost below 10 Hz.
Mid – 700 Hz, 2 octaves wide.

So, TL;DR to compare the OFDs:

(1) The Bass OFD treble cut starts at the same frequency and has more range/goes to a lower frequency.
(2) The Guitar OFD bass cut is a HPF instead of a shelver
(3) The Guitar OFD bass boost still has a HPF of sorts at the lowest frequencies

???

I realize there are definitely some advantages of doing things the way you did for guitar, but it sounds like both will cover a lot of the same ground. So a Bass OFD could plausibly be tweaked for some good guitar sounds.
