Wow!!! Those are pretty sweet but pricey. I think the doc spreadsheet may be the way to go. The M5 is enticing. 24 presets may be enough but I would hate to get it and end up realizing it won't be.
Midi mouse/moose have 128 PC's. M5 is a great idea too, they you have a tuner/octave/pitch glide and other fx's. Are you really going to have more than 24 presets plus the 2 presets get SB2 pedals?
I have never used MIDI before. Do I understand correctly that the M5 can be used to store patches that include other pedals in the MIDI loop? If I have a hub connected Manta and OFD, they could become part of a M5 patch?
Whenever you load a preset on the M5 it automatically sends that corresponding # as a program change on it's midi output. You can't edit what it sends or anything like that, but if you aren't using midi currently and want to add the SA HUB to your repertoire, the M5 is an interesting option since it also gives you all of the effects in the M5 to use however you want. I use mine for reverb/delay/octave/pitch/ and EQ (well, I use the EQ like a volume pedal / boost). Up until now I used it as a phaser a couple times as well, but now I've got the Orbital, yay.
If you don't need any of those extra effects, or want more than 24 presets for your SA stuff, I'd go with the midi mouse. It's easier to navigate through presets. I suggested the M5 because it has a display that you can store whatever names you want for presets.

Great advice johnbgone and its certainly appreciated. The M5 is being considered. I should be able to get by with 24 presets, shouldn't I?
John did a great job explaining the M5, butI just want to add that you simply set a patch on the M5 to volume patch if you only want SA pedals changing. But if you want to stack the M5 fx on that you can.
BUT...try out the M5 to see if you like the navigation. I like instant access button opposed to scrolling thru and then activating. The midi mouse works almost the same.
Thank you. I had a M5 a while back (thanks in large part to your HH3 demo) and ended up moving it after giving up on integrating the HH3 into my playing. I did really like the sounds of the M5 and the interface/ expression control was top notch. I do have the Bass Pod XT Live. I wonder if it can pull off the same thing. Essentially, I would rack my pedals and use the XT Live as my MIDI controller. I need to download the XT manual and see how this would work.
I think the vast majority of Hub users will simply want to buy a MIDI Mouse. It's smallish, and extremely easy to use, requiring no programming on the MIDI Mouse itself.
If you need more MIDI control that that can give you there's a lot of options from tablet MIDI apps, to big MIDI controller floorboard boxes like the Behringer FCB1010 with the UNO chip.
Note that most of the Line6 boxes are fairly inflexible when it comes to MIDI. They output a variety of MIDI, but you cannot really control exactly what gets output. You'll get MIDI PC with each patch (exactly what you want with the Hub), but also a bunch of MIDI CC with the various effects (which can change SA pedal parameters, possibly not what you want).
With the M5 it's easy enough to manage since it can only do 1 effect. Or don't use it for the effects at all and use it purely for a MIDI controller. But with the larger Line6 boxes like the X3 Live you can get an avalanche of CC data output if you have a patch with a ton of effects enabled.
In contrast, most of the BOSS / Roland boxes are a little more flexible in regard to CC. They'll output PC with each patch like the Line6 gear, but often give you full control over whether you want the Expression and Control pedals to output CC, which CC to output, or don't output at all. Usually on a global device setting somewhere. So they may integrate better with the Hub.
Obviously if all you want is to change patches (scenes) on the Hub, a simple MIDI controller like the MIDI Mouse is the easiest way to go.

Yes. This is exactly why I haven't gotten involved in the MIDI world. I should just sell all my pedals and buy an Axe-FX unit.
But then you need a foot controller to change patches and bypass individual FX and are probably back to a Midi controller.
Ha Ha....of course. The MIDI mouse will do just fine. I can't imagine needing that many presets anyway. I do want to pull in my Strymon BigSky and a MIDI enabled delay at some point. I look forward to the day that I no longer need to tap dance.
Yep, the way the hub and the SB2 pedals makes it compatible with almost any (I'd say any) midi controllers. Normally with midi gear you need a separate midi channel per device and program a series of PC commands and maybe some CC. Not all controllers, especially the multi-fx units that send midi outrage more than 1 midi channel to use. The hub functions on 1 midi channel (selectable) or in Omni mode. Send a PC to the hub, tweak your SB2 pedals, then hold save on hub - done.
Okay, here is a quick and dirty demonstration of the hub and a couple of pedals using the OneControl Gecko midi controller. The Gecko is very similar to the MidiMouse, but with the ability to have a batch of special presets that don't have to be sequential. I did this on the first attempt using an iPad for recording, so excuse the audio quality.

I just got the OFD and it is as good as everyone is saying. I am not regretting ordering the Manta before I even got the OFD. I am pretty sure I will order an Orbital as well now.

Hub Update: They will not be shipping out until next week. Getting this done and NAMM prep has been a challenge!
Honestly I'm not sure if I'll need more than that. I just started playing with some guys playing really ambiant effect driven rock that's somewhat Tool-esque. A lot of intros and endings utilizing a sequencer and prerecorded bits. I may have many scenes just used once along with different songs using different basses. It's the main reason I'm intrigued by the whole HUB setup in the first place. Neither option is over the top expensive though. I think I may start with the M5 simply because naming the scenes would remove many possible hiccups. If I need more I'll get the midi mouse and create a spreadsheet and include the numbered scenes on my setlist. No worries!!! The HUB should be available sometime really soon. I'm looking forward to it!!! Good times!!!!!!!
