I’m not familiar enough with the Seamoon yet as I’ve only heard clips. If I can get my hands on one then I’ll happily get to work on replicating it. I’ll do some reading around and see if I can work out what is in there. I’d suspect it will be a 2-pole filter. I don’t know of any 4-pole analogue filter pedals apart from the Moog MF-101.

Apologies to all for the radio silence on my end when it comes to the Spectrum/C4. Fortunately I've continued to be employed through the pandemic (so far) and have been staying quite busy! I love making sounds, but I've been working remotely and I practice in the same chair as I work, so it's been a bit of a struggle to sit with a bass for any length of time after shutting off work and sitting in the same spot after 8+ hours already!

Also I have a Seamoon Funk Machine pedal at home now. It's a very distinct sound which is very hard to replicate exactly in the Spectrum. It miss some off the extreme frequency spikes that the real Seamoon has. The frequencies are extremely dependend of how you attack the strings and which technique or even which bass you use. I have tried a lot but I am not sure how to get to the Spectrum to be more extreme spikey and more sensitive on playing dynamics then what I have in the Seamoon 2 preset. I am not sure if the Seamoon uses a 2 or 4 pole filter and if the envelope can best be set to snappy? I hope some others chime in and make this preset perfect. That will save me some bucks to buy the Seamoon!!! Because it's quite inspiring I must say.

I admit to being at a bit of a loss, because like @Quatschmacher, I've only got clips to go by. But I noticed some of the same problems as @Les Fret when working on my Seamoon preset... The clips make it sound like the Funk Machine has some juiciness to it that I couldn't get on the Spectrum. I'll take another whack at the pinata this weekend though... Maybe I'm just missing something. I'd love to get my hands on a Seamoon too of course, but I'm avoiding spending any money due to Covid... I haven't had any gig money to play with since February, and things have been (okay, "are still") looking grim again in the States.

I haven't had a chance to look at the Spectrum presets so far, but going by the clips, mine sounds similar to @Quatschmacher's latest post.

Ok both of your and Quatchmacher Seamoon clips and my Seamoon 2 preset sound good but I am still missing something. The Seamoon has a bit more alive 'character' and has more spikyness and aggressive high frequencies that react more to your playing. I have made a video with the Seamoon which my brother will be editing this week. I will post it here. I think you will hear what I mean then. Also in the clips I mentioned of the Bass the world video you can hear it well.

I find myself wondering if it simply comes down to the difference between an analog filter and a digital one? The FwonkBeta and Pigtronix Bass Envelope also have a lot of the same character you're talking about in the Seamoon, and I think the same thing about the Pigtronix patches that people have created. They're good, but still not quite the same. (I've not tried to replicate the FwonkBeta)

Possibly so but I am not sure if it has to do with analog or digital though. Many pedals (and especially envelope pedals) have their own unique sound that is very hard to clone exactly. Also because a certain pedal reacts different to your playing than another even though it may have the same filter and specs. The Spectrum is much more versatile than the Seamoon and the spikey and extreme low frequencies of the Seamoon can also be a problem for recordings or a sound engineer but it certainly is inspiring for me. But it is not for everyone I guess.

Thanks Quatschmacher, you've just nudged my C4 preset list to #101! This preset has also landed on my initial 6 patches too. High praise indeed. Appreciated!
In terms of how accurate it is...on my bass it sounds pressy similar, I adjusted the input level to suit too and a slight tweek to the various controls made it pretty close for me

just got this pedal and floored with the presets alone. have to admit i need to read the manual in more detail but is it just me or does it take an awful long amount of time to switch preset banks? Seems like it would be a pain switching in a live setting.

i guess that leads me to the question...what would be the most cost effective way to control parameters via external stomp switch (to change presets) with an expression pedal (to manually sweep da leg) ?

that would make it the ultimate pedal for my needs.

Get the Neuro Hub and a MIDI switcher and you can save all the presets you want and change them on the fly with the switcher. Source Audio also has an expression pedal, or you can use most others with it too.

You can adjust bank switching time in the app or editor. No problem.

Coupla quick Spectrum questions for you FXperts. I’m kinda looking for a minimalist one pedal solution to have a little funky, warm, groovy pedal for certain cover tunes ala Stevie Wonder et al.

1. Can the stereo inputs be used for two different basses (4 & 5 string) plugged in like a quickie mixer? Obviously I’d turn down the volume on the bass not used. If so, looks like the input levels could be adjusted & saved via software correct? Only looking to run mono out to my stage amp.

2. If I’m adjusting the stock included sounds (the 3 in the green bank) can I easily save those in the red bank on the pedal ... on the fly ... without going through the software or app?

3. Can I use a One Spot and jump off a tc Tuner pedal power output ... or does the Spectrum require it’s own dedicated adapter for headroom & such

4. Is there any kind of HPF available in the programming? Kind of like an “always on” HPF at like 40 or 45 Hz ...

3. Yes, as long as you’re not using too many pedals with the One Spot.

Quite a few people (myself included) have found that the Source Audio pedals do like an isolated power source much better than a daisy chain. Most have reported digital noise in their signal when they use a daisy chain power supply like a One Spot.

Can someone explain the low retain function in more detail? What makes it different than the bass ‘knob’ in the software? And when do you use it? Does it only work on the effected (wet) signal?

It’s basically a HPF for the wet signal, so as you turn that knob up, anything below whatever frequency the placement of the knob represents will be less affected by the effect. It’s just numbers on the knob, not the actual frequency, so you have to dial it in by ear. It is a little redundant seeing as there’s also a Blend knob which also helps retain low end, but it’s nice to have both options.
