Source Audio Spectrum Inteligent Filter!!!

My ONLY issue with previous SA filters I've owned is that when I play legato notes (notes that overlap each other a bit) or chords, the filter sweep goes from "wow wow" to "woh woh" when I go back to separate single notes. No other envelope filter I've used does that. I've read that other musicians have experienced the same thing (YMMV).

Playing "clean" and always keeping the notes separate is not an option, because some of the passages I play would lose their feel if I didn't play them legato. Can anyone who's had this issue with previous SA filters confirm that the Intelligent Filter has resolved this?

Hi,

I have a Source Audio Manta and I want to upgrade it to the Spectrum. Is the new pedal able to do EVERYTHING the Manta does? I have some very particular presets that I want to keep, and the reason why I still have the Manta is because I don't know if I can replicate them on the Spectrum.

It is, but the settings don't map directly. You certainly can't dial the Manta settings into the physical device, you'll need to work out those settings using the Neuro app and save them as one of the 6 presets...or hook it up to a hub / midi controller to access all 128 presets via midi.
I have 47 presets loaded on my C4 at the moment. About half are octaver or filter sounds, three of which model / mimic Xerograph settings / sounds. I got these from the community and then tweaked with them until the played nice with my midi expression and bass inputs. I also customized the two pedal knobs to do something more useful for me. Its a very powerful and versatile box of tricks.

True, but not one that I personally find desirable. Once I set an envelope filter to open a certain way, I want/need it to stay that way.

Having said that, my BEF Pro is my #1 filter/phaser LFO. Every modulation sound I need is in that box!

It may point to whether it's doing what you think or not. I don't notice it acting differently than other filters I have.

I think you will need to try a Spectrum or C4. They are the best filter pedals we have ever created. The envelopes are not identical with prior products.

It's good to know that the envelopes are "...not identical..." To be clear, I very much like the sounds of the SA envelope filters I've tried before; I just couldn't get along with the way they tracked my instrument's signal.

@FilterFunk give them a try, for me the C4 is the first filter I have found that plays with me rather than me playing to it. Once the input sensitivity is set the filters responds to my playing very dynamically, letting my play feather soft to slamming, fingerboard to bridge, bends, pulls or twisting and it follows every nuance. Changing pickups or basses offers variations sometimes subtle sometimes quite unique. The controls allow me to blend in different distortion types, choose filter shapes and mix those up, the C4 lets me get very creative. The Octaver is phaat and nasztee.

Then there are the Synthesizer options that are virtually endless depending on the Neuro Community or your own creativity.

I know this has been asked on one or more of the SA threads, but specifically for the Spectrum, would you run compressor before, or after? I just got an Origin Effects Cali76 CB compressor and I run it around 4:1, slow attack, and a lot of dry signal blended in. I use an Octaver a lot!
Thoughts?

When I talked with Jesse about this last, compressor is about the only effect he says could be allowed in front of the c4/spectrum, but to be careful in how you set it. Basically if you feel it’s messing with the envelope tracking in any way, you should probably dial it back some.

Can sum up for me what the pros and cons are for getting the C4 over the Spectrum or visa versa? Besides the synth stuff in the C4 obviously. Are the envelope sounds of the C4 exactly the same as the Spectrum? Thinking about getting either one of these. Thanks.

Envelope sounds are identical. Download the Neuro Desktop editor. From the view menu, select " show offline device editor". You can see the different features for the pedals.

Only benefits of the Spectrum would be more envelope specific presets out of the box and the controls labelled as parameters that relate to envelope filters. Although I assume you can probably remap any knob to control any function, and should therefore be able to set up exactly the same presets and controls on the C4..

I'm finding this to be the case. I'm not much of a Deep Diving kind of guy, so I have found several Filters, Octaves, and combos of each, that are close to what I'm looking for, then I edit and save on the pedal. I had the C4, and swapped it out for the Spectrum for this reason.

Was set on the Q-Tron + but then was talked into looking into the Spectrum as apparently it does all the the Q-Tron does, but with WAY many more features and options. Despite being a digital pedal, do you guys think that this is a better option over the analogue Q-Tron Plus? Thank you so very much. Play on. CHeers!
