Source Audio UltraWave ~ Catch the Wave

Just got home from a few weeks in Japan where I picked up an ultrawave. Not a bass one but that's just paint right?

I already had a c4 that I can control with my Bluetooth dongled up m-vave chocolate midi board.

Is there any way to have the c4 pass midi thru to the ultrawave?

Also, when switching between presets on the ultrawave is there any gap in the sound? I thought I noticed a gap between presets in the shop but I haven't got it out to play with at home yet.

The factory presets on the bass on are different. There is a mix control in place of the sustain control. You have access to the same exact library of sounds.
No, you cant pass MIDI thru to the Ultrawave from the C4.
Preset switching on the Ultrawave should be the same as the C4.

That's fine about the midi, I think I was confusing it with the phone audio output chaining thing. Eventually I'll go full hub/soleman/whatever is cool when I get there but for now it might be simpler to just get a 2nd m-vave for the ultrawave while I'm getting it set up.

Two years later, I caved and now have one incoming.

I've started using enough sounds on my Multiwave that knob twiddling between songs is becoming a thing. Old Multiwaves have shot up in value and I was able to get an Ultrawave for the same price as the gigantic Multiwave Pro. Hopefully the SA tap tempo pedal will allow me to switch channels mid song.

I think the key to my success will be keeping things simple. The difficult setting to duplicate will be Multiwave's half normal/half foldback mode. It has both envelope and octave that appear when the gain is at 2 o'clock and I think it'll take a while to dial in.

Expression pedal seems to be the way. No delay between patches that way and a lot of ways to set it up.

My thought was to use the tap pedal as an expression to move between settings. Set the off at one value and the on at another. Switching between channels would be ideal. Using it to be able to turn on and off the tremolo or LFO would up the "let's get weird" quotient.

You can use the tap switch to do this but as it is only momentary you have to keep your foot on the switch to keep the change going. Advantage of the Exp. Pedal is you can have it on or off.
The tap switch would be great if you could also have it on or off but you cannot unfortunately.

Could I use a latching switch through the TRRS port instead? Or is what I want really only available by programming a midi switcher?

I believe it can only be done via midi. I went down this route about 4/5 months ago. The source audio pedals are not set up to use a latching switch. If they brought out a latching switch it would be amazing and instantly add so much more to all the One Series pedals.

Hey @rsmith601, would this work? If so, there's a local company named Saturnworks who I would ask to build a TRRS latching switch. I'm guessing he wouldn't let me return it, so I want to confirm before I make the inquiry. Thanks!

I know it's different but bought a TRS latching switch from Saturnworks to try but it didn't work. The guy at Saturnworks did explain that there's a good chance it wouldn't but I thought I'd give it a go anyhow. I think he said that it can get complicated working with digital pedals.

I figured that might be the case. He does make a TRRS tap tempo pedal for use with SA products, so I'd ask him to make that one latching. But I'd want it to work first.

I thought about cancelling the SA tap tempo pedal order, but I'm going to keep it. Having a hot button could be cool and I can always use it as a straight tap with other pedals.

There’s actually a wiring schematic for the tap switch in the online manual, as well as in most of the one series manuals. You could just replace the momentary switch with a latching type switch if that’s what you need. Pedals like the kingmaker and eq2 need the momentary switch if you’re using it for channel swap, or adding the second drive channel. Eq2 is the most robust as far as what the momentary tap switch can do.

Thanks, I hadn't gotten that far into the manual yet. Bluntly, soldering irons are not my friend. I'd definitely want this built for me.

On the Ultrawave, is it possible to program the external switch to turn on and off sections or channels? Or is it purely for morphing control? Thanks!

No, ultrawave ran out of code so the switch only supports tap tempo.

The UltraWave is here and I'll get to check it out as the week progresses.

I did get to open the box. I bought it used so it only came with the TRRS and 1/8" to 1/4" cables. I didn't know that, but honestly, it wasn't in the sale photos either. My "old man bag of cables and adaptors" came to the rescue, where I found a mini USB to USB-A cable, and a USB-A to USB-C adaptor. So I got it hooked up to the computer. It appears the previous owner didn't wipe the presets so I'll go through them and see what I like before removing them.

I have a USB host adaptor coming this weekend, and hopefully I can use it to plug in an iPhone cable, so I have mobile capabilities too.

On TGP, Disaster Area said I could use the 1/4" adaptor to connect the Ultrawave to the DMC Micro. Hopefully, I can do that, and use the usb cables to keep it connected to the computer/phone at the same time.
