Southampton Boost!!

Ok, so first practice with the double Southampton (10th gear?) complete, and it was pretty good! Man, this thing has a ton of volume on tap. For fun I actually didn't use my Phat Phuk this evening, and I set up the pedal so that the one channel was at unity gain and playing a similar role to my PPB - tonal enhancement and line driver. It sounded really nice in this role! It won't take the PPB's place, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for this sort of use. Then, the second channel was set for a nice little volume boost, right around that 10 o'clock setting. Absolutely beautiful. The pedal NAILED what I was looking for - it gave me the volume boost I needed with just a hair of gnar, and really popped my bass up front in the mix. I liked it so much, I started to punch it in during choruses, or little lines here and there that I wanted to stick out more.

Next, I plan to run it with the PPB in place, and now I'll have two different levels of boost, not to mention a third sound that comes from running the two in series! :D

Thanks guys for turning me on to this pedal! I know its only day one, but it sure is looking like a keeper!

Got to try out the Fifth Gear today. I am very impressed. One its own it has a nice mild grind with heft. (Grind seems to favor the low mids.) The deep lows remain clear and full. I think there is a slight boost to the lows. Upper mids and highs remain clear with slow roll-off in the upper treble. It is not as forward in the mids as other dirty boosts I've tried. That definitely works for me. Beats the pants off of the Phat Phuk B for my needs. I always felt like the PPB boosted low mids and killed the lows and added some grind in the mids around 2k. That is good for some setups/tone goals, but not mine.

Not always yellow. I was really excited he was willing to do more swirl paint jobs.
