Amazing to think the company is less than 20 years old, incredible what they've achieved so far.
An their methodology is something else. Designing, building, and testing almost deliberately until it breaks has yielded results far faster than the develop-it-to-the-point-of-near-pefection-in-one-hit favoured by NASA and its traditional contractors.

Near-perfection but too often with disastrous flaws... scary to read what went on behind the scenes with the shuttle disasters.
Howard Hughes, maybe.
I like the fact that he's human. Hes not afraid to simply say what he thinks, even if it upsets people (such as the famous 'pedo guy' insult) or if its a bit cringeworthy. He thinks it, heap says it, and there it is.
Hes not trying to convince people his character is something that it is not - he's Elon, warts and all, and if people don't like that he couldn't give a sheet. Thats a certain refreshing honesty of outlook and presentation that we seldom see in these glossy, PR groomed times.

Traditional contractors (I've been in the industry for 30+ yrs) are forced into a zero-defect mentality by the system; every one of the Starship RUDs would have been followed by months-long reviews.

I would imagine they are getting much better telemetry from the control software... they probably know where it's gone wrong even as the RUD occurs.
It's not so much the data acquisition that's the hold up, it's the analysis, tracing to root cause and then convincing the contracting agency (US Govt customer) that you know what went wrong and how to fix it. SpaceX only has to convince themselves (and the FAA).
The sight of all those Raptors on the base of Super Heavy is just terrifying!
