Tuesday morning NASA will start to release the first pics from Webb. I think it starts at 10 or 10:30 AM EDT and they're supposed to release a new one every hour. NASA.gov is one place to see them. Be there or be square!

Today, at 5pm EDT, President Biden will reveal one image from Webb. Less than an hour away. Here's an article covering the full schedule for the 11th (today), 12th, and 13th.:

The White House event was short and lacking in info. More of a rah-rah session. That's fine.
The pic they showed was of target SMACS 0723 as it appeared 4.6 billion years ago. It's a giant galaxy cluster in the foreground that is magnifying and warping the light of more distant galaxies into arcs (gravitational lensing).
The picture was taken looking at a small patch of sky. The patch of sky is equivalent to a grain of sand on your finger held at arm's length. It took Webb 12.5 hours to take the pic. Would have taken Hubble weeks.
All those galaxies seen in a patch of sky no bigger than a grain of sand on your outstretched finger with details showing that are new to scientists. Just wicked cool.

what sorts of things do you suppose are going on out there ? I am aware that the light on this photo is very old, I'm sure most if not all of these galaxies are probably still around. How could we possibly be alone amongst all of this ?
