Spare amp advice

I have both the 200 and the 500. I would opt for the 500... Mostly for the variable contour. They show up in the classifieds here in the under 4 bills range pretty often. It will fit in the pocket of my Protec gig bags...

I love the 200 as well. Mine is buried into a combo cab I had built for acoustic support gig's- i don't ever need the contour there... They're both great amps. The MB500 is going to feel more like your Eden if you use the WT's Enhance though. The DI's on each are clean and quiet.

I sold off my last WT head. Miss that tone, though not the size and weight. Eden and GK are my two fave sounds when it comes to solid state amps.

I don't care too much about contour or luxuries like that for a spare head. For me, it's having suitable power to get through a gig.

The small size of a micro head seems very appealing for a spare.

I own an Eden Amp, and it is giving me fits. I don't have a spare head.

I've seen some older SWR SM 400's on my local Craigslist for around $350-400.

I don't want to spend a ton. I just need a spare in case my Eden goes down.

I was also looking at that Genz Benz 3.0

Any advice???

The GB Shuttle 3.0 is about $520 (new), so you have a ton of amps to pick from - way to many choices to list here. Its probably best just to go test drive some amps at you local music stores and remember the one(s) you liked best and then buy a used/second hand one for less.

Here's some other possibilities for you - I do just what you are describing, keep a very small head in my gig bag/backpack. I had a MB200 and didn't like it (although many do) - tone didnt work for me, and it seemed underpowered. If it works for you, it certainly is cheap and very small.

I would look at Genz Benz also, but maybe a used Shuttle 6.0. You might find the same problem with power. I had a 6.0 and loved it, traded it up for a Streamliner 900 (my main head now)

My backup these days is an iamp 300 - love it! They dont often come up for sale. Bought it here on TB classifieds.... Cant remember what I paid, but is more versatile with a bit more power than the MB 200, and just as compact.

There are so many good choices now for ultra-compact heads.

Hey
I too am a user of Eden WT800 and with many years of touring it have had a few flaws throughout the years. I am in times of need depending on my Eden Nemesis 340 ( I think )
I admit that it needs the tube pre amp warmth, but it is reliable as hell.

Cheers

Hey guys, I'm looking for a spare amp as well. I have a Aguilar DB750 that I love, but dragging it to rehearsals up and down stairs is a chore (about 70lbs). I just want something with some power than I can just carry in a gig bag. I'm in a band with 2 guitars and keyboards/organ, so it gets loud in the room. I've owned a couple of Markbass LM2's and they're pretty good, but I'm not crazy about the tone (especially after owning the Aguilar). They look like they're going for around the high $300 range in the classifieds. The Genz Benz 6.0 was another I've been looking into. I'll keep my eye on this thread for further recommendations.

A local guy is offering me an older SWR 400s for $275... I used to own one of these. I liked it. Just not sure if something like this defeats the purpose of a backup. I'm sure I could get it for less, via haggle.

GB 6.0 is a great choice - plenty of volume! Other option is a GB Streamliner 600. Both can be found pretty regularly here on TB classifieds. GB makes really great compact amps - I am a fan for life of them, great customer service.
