Speaker Question

I have an EBS Fafner which is rated as follows:

360 W RMS @ 4ohm
500 W RMS @ 2ohm

I have a Bergantino HT210S which is 4ohm @ 500 watts.

If I get another cab which is a 4ohm cab, will that make it 2ohms? I want more power and more wattage, let me know if this is the wrong way to go.

Thanks

With two 4 ohm cabs in parallel you will present the amp with a 2 ohm load so it will produce 500 W RMS. This will feed 250 watts to each cab.

here is an excellent write up on amp/speaker configurations:

How do I do parallel? I only have one speaker out.

Thanks for the help guys.

Do you have two speaker inputs in either cab? Unless there is one wired specifically for a crossover (it would be labeled input and the other labeled output) you can plug one cord from the speaker out of the amp there and then another speaker cord from the other cab input of the first cab to the second cab. That would chain the cabs in parallel.

Perfect... right now I have a bergantino HT210S, I am thinking of a 1X15 or a 1X12... Any opinions on a good addition to the mix?

Do you find any part of your tone lacking with the 210 by itself? If you want meatier/deeper tone go 115, punchier low mids might be achieved with the 112. If you like the tone and just want a 'bigger' sound you may just want to add a second 210.

I usually run my Eden Metro 210 with an additional Markbass 210 (or Acme Low B 2). The Eden cab is ultra crisp while the Markbass cab adds body. The Acme adds loads of clean low end but I find I need to power it separately because it is less efficient (by design, the extended excursion of the speakers is what produces the powerful low end response).

I would go 1x15. You could also do a 2x12, but I wouldn't put 250W into a single 12 even if it could take it; you'd be wasting power throwing that 12 cone to full excursion when another 2 10s, 2 12s or the 15 would give you more volume per watt. Just my opinion, YMMV.

Generally speaking, the bigger the speaker size, the deeper and darker the tone is. So, at the dark end of the spectrum, you've got 18s, and at the bright end, you've got 8s and tweeters. If you find you're lacking depth and meat, you might consider a 1x15 or maybe a 1x18. If you want some low-mid punch, a 2x12 would match up nicely. If you just want more of what you already have, get another 2x10.
