Speaking of neck dive...

Can I get some recommendations for a decent strap that will prevent neck dive on standard basses? I've been dealing with this problem for years because I've been using nothing but cheap leather straps. I posted about this in the Techniques forum, so sorry for the cross post. But now that I know it's most likely the strap, it would be great if you guys could give me some recommendations. Some people say suede works well because it has more grip on the shoulder. Other people say that the width of the strap works pretty well too.

Unfortunately, I don't have many stores in the area where I can try out straps, and that's why I've just been ordering the cheap Planet Waves leather straps. So any recommendations are much appreciated.

Ive been using comfort straps that are neoprene and its much much better imo than leather or swede

Prevent neck dive? You are going to be disappointed.

Reduce the effects, sure. The MONO Betty (Duraweave) worked quite well for me.

I tried the Mono strap, and found it didn't help with neck dive at all.

Prevent neck dive? You are going to be disappointed.

Why would I be disappointed. Neck dive usually reduces speed because I have to compensate by using my fretting arm to lift the neck all the time.

I think he’s saying that a strap isn’t going to “prevent” neck dive, but at-best reduce the effect.

I have 2 standard MIA P basses and a standard MIA J bass and it doesn't matter which one I play, they all end up completely horizontal hanging from the strap.

I'm always puzzled when I see some player's basses hanging in a nice angle. I just don't know how they're doing it.

What kind of bass is it? If it has a short upper horn then you could fashion an upper horn extension. I did this:

Regular straps can only *help* with neck dive. It won't completely eliminate it.

I don’t recall Fender Js or Ps having a rep for neck dive.

Horizontal is bad for me. And yes, those basses don't neck dive, so it's something I'm doing wrong. I just got so used to it over the years and I'm just noticing it's a problem now. Go figure.

Any of the wide, padded straps from Neotech should help.
