I like the PU centered between the neck and bridge (the WWLD? position). It could make for a really punchy tone, are you putting a preamp in?
I'm on board for the "go bonkers" option, because why not? Seriously, more is always better and usually never enough. 
Thanks. It's an inexpensive unit I bought off of e-bay. In theory the knobs are fine tuners, though I think the internals are a bit too simplified to actually work.
Neck sanded to 320 grit and sealed with shellac:
I sanded the shellac and wiped with naptha and OMG! This sucker is gonna glow when it's finished.

I may have missed it but what are you going to use to finish it after the shellac? That neck looks incredible. Did the shellac have an amber tint to it?
It's going to be even prettier once I apply the Varathane clear coat. I tried to get a pic after the naptha wipe but the naptha is flashing off too quickly to get a good pic.
Yeah I plan to finish it with Varathane crystal clear gloss. The shellac has a slight amber tint to it.
For an idea of how much amber is in the shellac, here's a maple neck I did at the same time:
