I have their hong kong style high angle smoothing plane, it's a great plane for the price. Tricky to set up, but when set up well and sharp will smooth the curliest most tear-outable wood.
I'd love a set of ibex planes but they are so astonishingly expensive I can't see myself ever owning them. If these are even remotely comparable I might try them. I think I see the set of 5 mini planes you're talking about being sold at a few different eBay merchants for around $60. I am not sure if I'm seeing the larger ones or the smoothing plane. Can you guys link to them here?
They have two of the five miniature planes as well! Mind you they're much more expensive at lee valley but at least you don't have to wait for them to show upLeevalley has the smoothing one
