Took a bunch of extra hand filing and after the hand filing, some glueing... But I got everything to fit. Looks pretty okay!

Guard screw holes drilled and countersunk, I have some black screws laying around that are perfect for the job.

And got everything drilled and the back glued on!

There's a few layers of gloss coat curing on the guard right now, but I left a little pencil mark behind... Maybe I'll just photograph it at the right angle to hide it

REALLY like the grain on the cherry back. I almost regret not going cherry on the top too...

Chamfer turned out good I'm a little afraid of what the chamfer bit might do to the top, so I'm going to going very very slow and there will be lots of tactical cutting!

Can you rough in the chamfer first, with rasps/files, and just use the bit for a final clean-up pass?

That's a good point. I'll have to bust out the sureform and the rasp a go at it for a few minutes... Dinner won't be delivered for another half hour anyways

Also, I didn't think the little convex plane would ever be useful but it cut the purpleheart much quicker than my rasp could

That's cool. I have what may be the same plane and a couple of other similar ones and, at some point maybe soon, a body that needs a similar carve. I'll have to give it a try.

Ended up changing the contour where the body meets the heel of the neck. There's a little something to cover up

And of course, somehow the holes I drilled for the pickguard didn't line up properly toothpicks to the rescue!

Gotta love how quickly wipe on poly dries. I hung the neck up no more than 5 minutes ago after a couple thin coats and it's very soft to the touch

Of course, two of my spring clamps had to sit out this photo shoot.

I agree, plus there's not a lot of time to cure and polish out a finish...

Time is less of a factor, as I can have the gloss clear layed out, cured, and polished in ~48 hours. That's what I did with the guard, though I could have left it a little longer realistically.

Safe to say I'm leaning towards the satin poly though!
