Just make sure that if you decide to get an interface (a great investment IMO, that you set the input and output to the right option in your garageband preferences, you may also need to download drivers to make the interface work, but I haven't needed a set of drivers for anything since I got my iMac.

The interface is also really convenient for late night practices as you can just plug your headphones directly into it.

Dear Spector likers&lovers, I`ve been wondering about getting myself one of these basses. I`ve come across a few used 5-string european models, but havent had much time to fiddle with the sounds, or try them in band. So far I like what I hear though, and they`re wonderfully fast and easy to play.

But I have one question, and forgive my possible ignorance: What kind of music do you people use these basses for?
Rock`n roll? Jazz? Funk? Metal? Jamming at home on your couch?

But I have one question, and forgive my possible ignorance: What kind of music do you people use these basses for?
Rock`n roll? Jazz? Funk? Metal? Jamming at home on your couch?

They seem to be most suited (IMHO) to rock and metal, but really, anything sounds good played on a Spector. Quite versatile.

+1, IMHO everything sounds great on a Spector. I play Metal, Rock, Blues, Jazz...etc and I always get the tone I am looking for. I currently own two 4 string Euro models and one 4 string USA model

OK. FIRST... this is NOT a real SPECTOR.
It's a mock-up I did in Photoshop to show PJ an idea that Nicki Tedesco and I were talking to him about.

See Nicki was a MusicMan Stingray player before Spector. And she sometimes misses the sound of her Ray. I personally used to own a Stingray and loved it. I love Spectors more. But if I was going to play something other than a Spector (which I'm not), I'd dig having another pre-Ernie Ball Ray.

So we were throwing around the idea of a ReBop-MM model.

Basically set up like a Ray, but all ReBop. And of course Nicki said she'd want the new Maple Finger Board option that's now available for Euro models with hers.

What do you all think? Great idea, bad idea, don't care? Just trying to get some feedback so I might be able to talk PJ into building one of these or better yet, making it an option.

Hmmm......I'd probably be interested if it had a J as well. Honestly, I think that most people who want a Ray will just buy a Ray.

the ReBop is sort of the unsung hero of the NS-Basses. The only Spector Bolt-On with the true fully-carved NS-Body and the most affordable NS-Bass with crown inlays made.

Why doesn't the US bolt on use the fully carved NS-body?

I know the two bolt on models are different, just wondering why the US went with a different body shape. It seems like my rebop body is smaller than either my US bolt on or my NS5xl. I'll have to look closer later. Did they change the US bolt on shape when they went to the non-solid maple model?

I'm in a Soul/R&B, Classic Rock, blues cover band and all I use is my Euro5LX. It does all those tones and then some. So the answer to your question is: YES

I have one with the trim pot and i am thinking of putting it in my Euro. Right now i have one without the trim pot. Just curious...what is the main difference i will notice? To me, it seems like my bass pushes my amp so hard that it almost clips even with the gain and volume down. I use a limiter/enhancer at the moment to help, but i am thinking of swapping preamps. Any help/input is greatly appreciated.

Swap em! The trim pot helps sooo much! the tone stays huge sounding without the loud, amp clipping output.

Thats exactly the difference. I have a non trim pot as well, but I tried lowering the pickups and it seemed to make a bit of a difference.

The trim pot is like a gain control on your amp, but for your basses preamp. The lower the control on the TP, the less gain, the less overdrive in your tone.

I really would suggest trying to lower the pickups before you get a new preamp, though. I lowered both pickups but kept the neck one a little lower, and it has made enough difference for me to hold off on getting a new preamp and continue working on my rack rig.

The trim pot fixes that. The non trim pot is very hot. You can turn the trim pot down and still get the growl but keep the input from distorting. Gotta play with the pot a bit. There's a sweet spot depending on your playing from 40-60%. The non trim pot pump is fixed at about 90% of the trim pot version. I can get the nice clean raspy piano type tone with good growl , at any boost setting on the bass and dial in just the right amount of gain from my svt. With the non trim and the haz the svt wanted to distort at pretty much any gain setting with any boost dialed in on the bass. Adding eq just made it worse. Verry happy with my trim tone pump.

All of the above. Used my spectors for everything from children's albums to death metal. There are some great sweet spots in the pickup blend control, and by rolling off the hi boost you can cover pretty much everything. Always sounds great what ever the situation.

New amp? Lol. Dosent that box do everything? Lol. I think you'll like the trim pot pump, just leave the cover off and play with the settings for an HR or so. You'll see what I mean. Imo if the signal is too hot you can't do to much with the amp. With the trim pot you can still run full boost on the bass but back off the output so its all useable. The pump also has a little distortion, the perfect ammount imo, to get the Grindy stuff going.

Btw, I was wondering why these bolt-on Euros are so limited in color options compared to the neck-thru ones.

Me personally, I play everything from 80's pop to Death Metal and these basses can handle it all.

I like mine for playing rock, funk, blues and for trying to learn to play jazz.

In the studio, the growly spector tone is great for cutting through a mix that is really dense (lots of guitars and other instruments that are taking up space). In my opinion it is the ultimate rock bass sound. In a sparse mix, (example: acoustic gtr, drums playing with brushes, not a lot of background vocals) I still might reach for a P bass or something less (in your face).

Indeed! Thanks man! Yeah i'm keeping the Axe Fx if that is what you are talking about. haha! It REALLY does everything!!! I would use it live if i wasn't so lazy. I'd have to unhook it every time for practice, then hook it back up for recording. I'm way too lazy for that. I'm gonna look at some Ampeg and some Trace Elliot if i can find it, and possibly some GK stuff. I'm secretly hoping that i will be blown away by the SVT 4/8X10 setup

Its so weird to me that the artists that i love and respect all use Ampeg, but i couldn't get a go sound from the one i tried....

The list goes on...

The video 7th posted yesterday sounded really good to me as well, so we'll see what happens.
