Ah, well as I'm looking for soemthing I can actually go out and try before I buy, I won't skip over one if I find one, but I wouldn't put it as my primary choice as they don't seem to be around much. Looks like the Genz Benz is still my best chance.

Agreed. You can find lots of info about them right here on TB, but they just jacked the prices up, so they're not exactly inexpensive anymore. You can still find them on the used market for a great deal. I bought by 8 ohm Avatar 212 NEO a year ago brand new right from Avatar for $389 + $77 shipping to Canada and it handles all 500 watts my Peavey Tour 700 throws at it. Great overall cabs, and they come in either 8 or 4 ohms, your choice. They also have a free upgrade to coloured tolex right now, but not the black tolex.

So I'm debating getting a lighter more versatile cab than my beastly 1x15, as I find with the Spector I'm wanting more mid bump without treble clang.

I'm looking around for a 2x12, but it needs to handle 400W at 8 and/or 4 ohms if I decide to run both cabs together. Don't want a horn or tweeter, as I generally start to roll off my tone around 1k, and completely roll it off at 2k. It may be ok if it has one, as long as it has the option to turn it OFF.

It may be totally impossible with a cab of this size, but I want to get more of a middy grind like you get on a 4x10 or 8x10 (especially like the ampeg sealed fridge ), while still being able to get it up and down the stairs from the studio/rehearsal space. Also I don't have a pickup truck or trailer so no fridge for me haha.

I'm not looking for something all that hi-fi sounding, I like pushing my amp and the speakers so I can get some dirt when I really dig in, rather than using pedals.

Also I'm kinda dumb to fancy audio cables, I use 1/4" speaker cables, not speakon or anything like that.

I've read lots of good things about the Genz Benz NeoX212. It's light, sits tall, and even with neo drivers has a vintagey warmth. Tweeter can be turned off, too, afaik.

A stack of two Aguilar GS112NT might do the trick as well, no tweets, great sound with lots of low-mids, and modularity for easy load-in/out. They can be found pretty cheap used.

I love my NeoX 212T with my Spectors. Plenty of growl, without the string noise and clank that goes along with my more hi-fi LDS 15-6. It's light enough to move easily, and also has wheels if you just feel lazy. I power mine with a ShuttleMax 9.0, and it's a great combination with the Spector growl.

Anyone here replaced the EMG-hz pups with Seymour Duncan's ? I seen some in the classifieds that will drop in my Rex 5 . They are the regular passive ones .

Wondering if they would be a major upgrade in sound and output ???

Or should I just get some EMG s ?

My ns2a with original haz copy and Duncan actives absolutely kills !!! So it's way too much adjusting to swap basses in the same set .

thats the same reason I'm putting EMGs in my NS-2A. IMHO if you like the duncans put some in your rex. I can't imagine a big output difference. But I bet the tone would be different.

Love the tone, it almost makes me want to get a PJ instead of an HH.

What preamp is in your bass Bassgiant? I love my non trimpot tone pump, but it sure doesn't sound like that. I'm thinking about ordering a TP tone pump today after the jets game actually, but I might be able to be convinced to go Aguilar as well. Also, is any of your bands stuff available on iTunes or anything? Where can I pick some of it up?

Been busy busy busy.... Motorcycle rides/events, meet&greets, etc. We ride 360/yr, even in the rain and cold. Last nights ride ended at 28* F.

Very good choice, Jeff. Those interfaces are great inexpensive units. I'm currently using a Steinberg CI1 that I got with a trial version of Cubase, and for under $100 I've been more then pleased. Recording into Garageband will take some time to get used to, but once you know how, you can record yourself practicing, it will really make you a better player.

The cool thing with those M-Audio interfaces is that you can install any version of protools and record with that (great professional grade software. Because I'm not using an M-audio, I'm stuck using other programs or I have to use Protools 9 or Protools 10 as you needed an M-audio interface for the earlier versions. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask, I'll do by best to help out

With Garageband I'm able to import MP3's and eq out most of the bass from the original track which is what I've done in the above link. It cuts some of the kick out of the mix, but it really makes hearing the tone from your bass easy.

Have you considered Avatar cabinets? I know they're not boutique grade, but they really are great cabs. I'm actually taking mine out of the house for the first time for band practice tonight as I don't wanna take the Mesa Ph412 down the stairs. My 8 ohm NEO 212 can sit in a hard rock band mix for days, and sounds great doing it. Very easy to transport as it's only 56 LBS as well. Comes in carpet, tolex, or line X, and I don't find it too hi-fi sounding.

I had a 4 ohm Avatar neo 212, and it was a very nice and LOUD cab, I just never tried it in a band mix. I ended up trading it for my Orange 15. Good call, Duke.

If you only want to record bass, it will be fine but I think it can do vocals as well. I have the same model and it works fine for me but I have just been lazy with the recording side of it.

I have the mon trim pot TP at the moment but I'm switching that this week. I have some music on my soundclick (D20) and my bands 1st album should be up on iTunes in a month or two. I'll post on here when the CD is available for sure.

you will be fine even if you just use garageband there is an option in the EQ section to remove the bass track...... I just picked up an older model digidesign m box and it works great

Check youtube out, depending on what OSX you're running I'm sure that you'll find a tutorial. Basically, interface into the mac via USB. Plug your bass into the interface, and plug your headphones or monitors in, and set all of your levels on your interface. Next, check your garageband preferences, make sure your ins and outs are all good (you can also hook up your interface and send all of your computer signal through the interface if you like, but that's another story). Make sure you set the levels on the interface for the right input you have your bass plugged into, and click the record button at the bottom. You should be getting a level in your phones at that point. From there on, it's basically experimenting.

When I was in HS I was working a lot with Garageband in my early music production courses, but we were running on older systems. When I got my new iMac, the garageband was totally different. It took a little while to get it down, but it's very handy to be able to use.

You can also record bass parts at home and send them to your fellow band mates, etc. Record rough guitar, bass and vocal tracks, it's just awesome.

How do you have your eq set on your bass if you don't mind me asking? I really need to take mine in for a setup, I'm getting a lot of fret buzz. I read a tutorial on setting up spectors, and I see that my tech clearly didn't do it right, now I have to find someone else. I really wish they made Spector 5ers in a PJ config.
