It's a great cab , to me it was just 1000$ + vs < $500 for an svt , same issues moving it (truck required) , and sometimes you want a little of that non hi fi grit. Nothing bad to say about them for me , except for their owners constantly touting about how they sound like an svt , but their better lol.

Yeah I've seen the "fridge killer" comments. To each his own right? The NV's really aren't hifi though. I love mine but I also love the 810 Ampeg. I have the NV215 and while it's big it's easy to move and I can fit it in the back seat of a Jetta.

That's what I love about my Mesa Powerhouse 412 - the ease of moving it. It's a heavy cab and a big cab, but with the handles on the back of the cab (better design then the towel bar IMO) side handles, and handles on the bottom of the cab I feel like I could get the cab anywhere it needs to go.

Yeah, but moving the cab up and down stairs even with bandmates can be a pain in the ass without anywhere else to grab. With the Mesa, you can pick it up with two people and move it easily with the back or grill facing the ground.

Also, I've read about adding casters to cabs changing the sound, is that at all possible, or is it just a myth?

Awesome tones seventh! Too bad the open room swallowed up your volume though...I'd live to hear your 810 recorded in a better room.

on a side note.... me and madbassplaya were talking and we were thinking Spector should do a worn series.... but to keep everything authentic... just let Doug Wimbish go on a tour with them, then they will be naturally worn.

Here's the thing about Ampeg, totally IMO, YMMV, but guys on the amp forum seem to agree.

With the sealed 8x10, your not going to hear this massive bottom end like you want to hear playing solo. The cab rolls off about 50-60hz on the low end and also rolls off about 2k on the high end. All the Spec. babys and guru's will tell you all kinds of things about how this cab goes lower and this one goes higher yada, yada..... The fact is that onstage and elseware (esp mic'd), that sealed cab sits exactly where you want it to in the mix. The good, powerful low end that is "bass" that you want is all there, esp in the 100hz range where it counts. The whole cab actually resonates a little lower but you don't really hear it until you give it some room, put it on a stage and stand 20 feet back from it. Than you go "ohhhh.....". The sealed 810 stays tight and keeps you out of the mudd.

Now, that cool sounding 30 hz tuned ported cab that sounded great in the store falls to it's knees in the mix vs the 810. All the low end that sounded killer solo (which we all love) , turns to mud in the mix and is usually so pronounced that you have to turn things down further to compensate. Believe me , been there done that, learned, and went " why does my bass sound like a beast live with this ampeg 810 cab?"

A little added bonus, the 810 has a nice sweet spot in the 800-1000 hz range, right were.....you guessed it , the Spector growl resides . On a plus note.... if your looking at an ampeg head, stay away from the the ultra low and ultra high buttons. They will basically give you a preset EQ curve and render the rest of the EQ on the head practically useless. you'll find yourself cranking things on the graphic to get a little bit of difference. The ampeg eq knobs aren't flat when set to 12:00 either. There's a bit of a hump at 100-120 hz with them set flat. I have the svt2 ( non pro) preamp with a power amp and 810e and love it. I use the vol on the svt 2 as kind of a gain knob, and the vol on the power amp as a master. that combined with the trim pot on the tone pump to vary the output level on the bass (to not drive the input so hard but have all of my bass and treb boost avail) works out great for me. The new svt 7 pro is the most "SVT cl / SVT 2 " sounding head from ampeg. Reguardless of having one 12ax7, most guys agree. I plugged into one and set my eq like I do on my 2, and my tone was there.

Thanks for the tid bits on the 810e cab! I did notice too with my PF-500 that the cab sounded better with the ultra low/ultra high buttons deselected. I can't wait to take this beast out of the house to my first big gig! And crank it up!!!Let the beast ROAR!!!

Here's the cool thing: $17 shipped for ALL FOUR! The fit isn't exactly precise, but you can't beat the look for the price.

Man, it really is. I definitely noticed that at lunch, too. I've had 3 5 strings now. The first one was a Dean Edge, and it's B string was basically a thumb rest. If you tried to play it, it was horrible floppy, and to get it's B string playable required some pretty extreme string height compared to the other strings. My MM Sterling's B string was much better, but there was still some mild floppyness. It was just enough that it made me slightly alter how I attacked that string vs the other strings though. The notes on its B string below the 7th fret had a tendency to die out quickly without much resonance. Now, the Euro5LX's B string has none of those problems. I can attack that string like any other, and the notes ring long and true. Add to that the fact that the string actually feels under tension without any floppyness, and you've got yourself a winner.

Yes, I'm using the PF-500...When I first turned it on, the master volume was set to 2.5, my dog ran for the hills with her tail between her legs and she doesn't have a tail! LOL So I have to keep it at 1-1.5 and that's equal to my PR-410HLF set at 3! LOL

not sure if anyone is interested, but i just saw this external power supply for your EMGs. kinda cool idea i think since most people have EMGs in their Spectors. Not sure how many people will use it, but i thought i would post it just in case you were interested.

Just make sure that if you decide to get an interface (a great investment IMO, that you set the input and output to the right option in your garageband preferences, you may also need to download drivers to make the interface work, but I haven't needed a set of drivers for anything since I got my iMac.

The interface is also really convenient for late night practices as you can just plug your headphones directly into it.

Cool, I got one called "M-audio, fast track" going to try it out today.

+1, IMHO everything sounds great on a Spector. I play Metal, Rock, Blues, Jazz...etc and I always get the tone I am looking for. I currently own two 4 string Euro models and one 4 string USA model

"For those experienced with the TP with the trim pot vs. without the trim pot"

I have one with the trim pot and i am thinking of putting it in my Euro. Right now i have one without the trim pot. Just curious...what is the main difference i will notice? To me, it seems like my bass pushes my amp so hard that it almost clips even with the gain and volume down. I use a limiter/enhancer at the moment to help, but i am thinking of swapping preamps. Any help/input is greatly appreciated.

Trim pot was probably made for this reason...most people adjust the level.
