Off topic.....But had a bad night at rehearsal last night...trying a second guitarist (his 2nd practice) and the dude is struggling on the easy songs. Very nice guy but has admitted to my girlfriend that he can't do some of our songs....do we keep letting this guy come and string him along??? He told my girlfriend one finger on his fret hand is non functional. He is playing on my side and all I heard was a$$....got me very discouraged...anyways I might be looking to change amp setup again and maybe selling a bass or two....Looking into maybe an Ampeg Svt4 pro, Thunderfunk 750 or mesa M9.....very discouraged.

Oh Jeff, this made me laugh a little, not on purpose or your situation, but when I read it, I thought, Awesome, Jeff is getting a louder amp to drown out the new guitar player...LOL

You have to get along with the people you play with, but at some point, you work really hard and are a talented person, you deserve to play with someone who is going to put in the work and has some talent around your level. For gosh sakes, he is going to be standing next to your Spectors, he better step up his game!

This is the main problem I have with some of the musicians I have met in Vegas, it seems they are either really nice guys, but can't play to save their lives, or can play and seem to be rotten human beings. I am too old and tired to deal with either. That's why I only really play in the summer back home, where I know tons of great people that can really play.

Thanks, thats what I said....originally the regular guitarist wanted another guitarist to switch off solos with him and take some burden off him....this guy has come right out and said he can't do solos???....His girlfriend contacted us for him to play. We werent looking for someone but the guys in my band said lets do it.....now they don't want to let the guy down and feel bad....Real nice guy but all he can do is power cords. The other guy does Van Halen, Metallica, etc. solos you name it....this makes no sense.

Sounds like the both of you know it won't work. Just tell him he's a cool guy, but your auditioning others and will let him know. Or just tell him he's cool but not the guy. No harm no foul, if it dosent work, don't beat the dead horse.

The NS-2A is now a Fretless. :bassist:

Photo and sound clip below.

De-fretted with a De-fret tool (heating the frets with a soldering iron as they were removed.)

Overall happy with the results, there are some fret teeth marks left in the wood which I assume is normal after de-fretting a bass that is 24 years old.

I am still deciding on how I will complete it, with or without lines. I may go with a all black fingerboard look. :cool:

That sounds great!! I'd go with no lines, all black!
The sound clip sounds wicked....Now here's another thing to keep you busy with string swapping! :D:D Flat wounds are my vote.

Jeffplaysbass,

I'm assuming you have a day job and a family like most of us. That means being in a band requires alot of your free time, disposable income, and family time. I had a struggle with things and came to the realization that, if I'm going to make those sacrifices, I deserve to be 100% happy with the band situation. Ask yourself what makes you completely satisfied with the band, then do your best to make that happen. I'm betting the other guys feel the same you do, and if you start that conversation, you'll all come up with something you all will be happy with

I just reset the trimpot on my Tonepump down to roughly 35%, and all I can say is WOW! Zero distortion with the bass knob maxed, even after turning up the gain volume on my amp, and additional clarity on fretted notes on the E string. That Tonepump is one powerful little bugger!

In a way, it's kind of like having a new Euro all over again, as the tonal palllette has increased dramatically by easing up the output on the internal pre. I love this bass - it sounds and plays SO good!

+1 on the playing and the no lines thing.

As nice as flats can sound, I prefer nickel rounds on a fretless. Of course, with your nickel allergy that's probably not an option. Ultimately it boils down to the sound you're looking to get out of the bass. It sounds pretty awesome with whats on it right now though.
