I've never had any pre all the way on. My Spectors had EMG pres. I ran them flat or bass boosted to about 65% treble flat or slightly boosted.

I have a tonepump installed in my NS2a. I found what I thought was "flat" by setting my other active bass (a modulus q5) to flat and comparing the two basses and adjusting the NS2a knobs by ear. Then I removed the knobs, and reset them where the dots are in the "up" position. When my knobs are "up" both volume knobs are all the way up and the bass and treble knobs are between 40%-60%. So when I start playing my bass, I have a good starting point for finding a tone.

I know you have those lovely gold dome knobs so the dot position thing doesn't apply.

I've rarely used the modulus with the tone knobs all the way up.

I run the pups at full volume, and generally run the bass and treble flat, which for the tone pump is roughly halfway up on the treble knob and about a 1/4 to a 1/3 on the bass knob. If I need to bump one up or down due to the room, it's usually not much.

Hmmm... I could use the set screws in the knobs as a point of reference. I sure do wish there were notches at flat.

Yeah, it's just a habit I got into when I first got the Mod. On my active Jazz I do start at flat and tweek to taste.

Yeah, I've only been using the tone pump for a couple of months, I thought it was goofy and a design flaw not to have center notches in the tone pots. I'm used to it now and it doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I love the tone pump now. I've been practicing my bass thru nice headphones lately and I'm amazed by how good it sounds.

I guess one could replace the included pots with "center click" ones. But I doubt the center position is truly flat.

Where do you have your trim set? I had to back mine down to about 20%.

According to Patrick on Spector Central the EQ goes like this...

+14db / -4db @ 55hz for the bass
+14db / -12db @ 6.5 for the treble

So you see a center notch wouldn't work. I'll just guesstimate flat and put the set screws straight up where I can see them and let my ear be the judge from there.

I run everything full on min tonepump.
I have the trim pot set at about 35-40%

I am thinking of throwing on of those in my Rebop5 but I still need to convince myself a bit more to do it. I currently have the tonepump without the trim pot in it and I am pretty happy with the results.

That pre is standard in the USA bolt-ons and Limaguy got to mess with one recently and was raving about it. He said the mid control really adds to it a great deal so I have been thinking about it since I heard that.
