Yep, the latter if the two....... I do have a set from 1989, not in too bad of shape.

Stuart calls this finish "Coral Reef". An amazing NS-4H2 with OBP-3 Circuit (thus the larger stacked knob). This one arrived before the New Year... so I had it about a month before it was shipped to the dealer that purchased it. It sounded great. And the finish was just stunning.

I missed that post you made previously and just went back and looked at it.

On my NS-2A I followed the same connections and had the "backawards" controls.
Apprarently the P Pups are the (R) rear
and the J Pups are the (F) front to get them working correctly. :confused:

I did swap them and there was no difference in tone. :bassist:

Hi there Spector owners!

I've been told that this is THE place to ask about all things Spector-y. First though, I just wanna say that after trawling through this part, and part 25 of the club, Spector makes the most beautiful basses I've ever seen, and I'm a real classic-lover.

Okay, so this easter I'm coming to the US for a few weeks, and I'm hoping to pick up a Fender Jag bass (yippee). But also, I have money left over from that, and I've been thinking of picking up a Legend Classic IV in Holoflash (my god, that finish!).

However, I'm a little concerned about it. I'll be buying without playing or seeing it (impossible to do so for me with ANY bass) and I've never played a Spector before. However, I've been told Spector basses have the punch I love (I like the tones of Jazz Basses, Stingrays etc, quite bright, but with some dirt). Also, the bass appears to be near the bottom of the Spector range.

So my question is quite vague, but here it is nonetheless haha. First, is this bass high quality, or is it a cheap entry-level bass? And second, is it a safe bet with Spector's QC, ie is there a strong chance that this bass won't be a lemon? As opposed to so many Fenders I've played in shops with dodgy pickups and the like.

Answers, and generally any knowledge about Spectors, this bass in particular etc would be great!

I've got a Legend 5 - I love it, and I tried sight unseen as well. I wasn't really disappointed in any way, with the exception of the shipping company taking forever LOL.

If that were an NS2 with a HAZ, I would be freaking out...

I think those are the original passive spector pickups with haz copy. Folks here will tell you $700 is to high for that bass, I think its pretty close, maybe a little too high but its in the ball park. Lots of NS2As sell at the $500 mark, keep in mind any NS2a is over 20 years old so many of them are beat up. That one looks to be in pretty good shape, better than most. Also comes with a hard shell case. I don't see many blue ones come around, if a guy likes blue, he probably won't find a better one than this.

I would put in a fresh set of emg actives in this baby. I'm not super impressed with the Haz copy but I've only had one experience with it. Some folks here like it. A new tone pump is only $100 which is a good deal for what you get. If this bass already had the EMGs for that price it would be about right.

Nice bass out of the box, all original, Kramer era neck (thin and fast). Hard case.

I got a cherry burst, in better condition than this one, with a case, for $450 shipped. On second viewing, those are Spector passive pickups. They sound ok, but their output is quite weak.

I have a legend custom ( set neck) and all the spector tone is there,with a fast neck...I LOVE IT...

Clearwave is right on with his answer, thats why he is the NS-2A Guy :bassist: and it also has a Hipshot Drop D tuner on it. :hyper:

Keep in mind with the Pickup upgrade this will end up costing you $850ish and you can get a Used Euro 4 for that price.

i have never played a Legend but many here have, and like them. i have owned a Performer (real entry level) and it was a great bass. Most of use buy Spectors sight unseen due to the lack of dealer stock. I'm positive you would enjoy that bass, might even replace your Fender. QC seems really high at the Spector Factory. I wouldn't be concerned with getting a "lemon"

output is a bit week for sure, but they do have a cool sound.

It is a bit high on price.... I have one the same color. I actually have under $300 into it with pup/pre upgrades....but that was a killer find locally. While I wouldn't feel "ripped off" paying $700-800 for a NS2A, they usually sell for less and for a few hundo more you could be playing a Euro.... Maybe you can talk him down...
