I got a cherry burst, in better condition than this one, with a case, for $450 shipped. On second viewing, those are Spector passive pickups. They sound ok, but their output is quite weak.

You got a great deal for that bass, It looks like new, plays great. I never find deals like that. The emg preamp works well in those basses.

I read here once that there were approximately 5000 ns2a's built. I'm not sure about that.....anyone else want to chime in?

I have the mighty mite copy and the posts near the battery go for the p pup and the posts closer to the jack go to the J pup.... they are labeled f p and rp. My blend knob when rolled forward (rotate clockwise looking at bass) goes to my J pup,, rolled back (counter-clockwise) goes to my P pup

All 9 Spector basses that I've had when you roll the blend knob clockwise it's the neck pup, counter clockwise bridge pup.

Hi there Spector owners!

I've been told that this is THE place to ask about all things Spector-y. First though, I just wanna say that after trawling through this part, and part 25 of the club, Spector makes the most beautiful basses I've ever seen, and I'm a real classic-lover.

Okay, so this easter I'm coming to the US for a few weeks, and I'm hoping to pick up a Fender Jag bass (yippee). But also, I have money left over from that, and I've been thinking of picking up a Legend Classic IV in Holoflash (my god, that finish!).

However, I'm a little concerned about it. I'll be buying without playing or seeing it (impossible to do so for me with ANY bass) and I've never played a Spector before. However, I've been told Spector basses have the punch I love (I like the tones of Jazz Basses, Stingrays etc, quite bright, but with some dirt). Also, the bass appears to be near the bottom of the Spector range.

So my question is quite vague, but here it is nonetheless haha. First, is this bass high quality, or is it a cheap entry-level bass? And second, is it a safe bet with Spector's QC, ie is there a strong chance that this bass won't be a lemon? As opposed to so many Fenders I've played in shops with dodgy pickups and the like.

Answers, and generally any knowledge about Spectors, this bass in particular etc would be great!

If you are a dedicated Fender player, the Spector basses are going to have a VERY different feel. I highly recommend playing one somewhere before ordering or buying one. The body is much smaller than a Jaguar; it's going to be much lighter, too.
If it were me, I'd forget the Jag and use the extra $$$ to get a higher-end Spector. I bought my first one (NS4CR) 17 years ago; I still have it, and I added a 5-string (NS5CRFM) as well - I'll never stray!
You will have no problems with the quality, sound, etc. I swear by EMGs, and the electronics in all Spectors are tip-top. Never had a problem!

I like to roll my blend toward the P a little, there's a nice sweet spot there. Bass n treb about 60% or so.

I like to roll my blend the same but my bass most of the time 100%, treble flat, sometimes less. Depending on the song.

Keep in mind with the Pickup upgrade this will end up costing you $850ish and you can get a Used Euro 4 for that price.

Yep, that's close to what I have in my black NS2a (that I got from Pele), but I love that bass. It plays and sounds great, so I don't care.

I know I'm weird, Guy can confirm, but I'm pretty sure I'd rather have a modded NS2a than a Euro. I like the thin neck, the way the fretboard feels and the thinner poly finish they used in the Kramer era. The Euros are super cool, they just don't appeal to me as much. Thats why I'm the NS2a guy.

Having said that, I might change my mind on that someday.

Nothing wrong with that man... I agree with you, the NS2As play great.. thin necks play great.... good weight...awesome basses.... I'm not opposed to buying and modding an ns2a either (I did that)


its funny when we start talking price on these used basses.... when you think of a $500 NS2A it will compare to and beat most other basses in the $1000+ range if not even more than that.

I wish they would come out with an NS2A reissue.... even at ful retail it would be a great value.

I didn't realize they listed for $1100....thats more than I thought.

Using a inflation calculator, thats about $2000 in todays dollars. certainly not a cheap bass.
