I had an 80's jazz special MIJ (the bass duff from GnR uses) and I can say that my Performer DLX was maybe a half step below that. But I liked the neck on the Spector better.

I'm not really a Fender expert by any means.... but I would equate a Legend more with some of the nicer MIJ Fenders.... maybe some one who has or had Fenders can chime in...

I have a Performer DLX 5 (One step below the Legend Classic) and I prefer it to my MIJ Fender Aerodyne. The build quality is about the same I guess (never had a problem with either one) but I like the feel and sound of the Performer better. I thought I was a jazz bass guy until I found Spector and was blown away.

I drilled the screw hole slightly deeper, that gave my alignment for the forstner bit, to countersink it. It's about 7/8" deep.
If you have some decent skill with a corded or cordless drill, it only took me 10 minutes, from start to finish. I've done quite a few of these
on customer's instruments, so I've gotten good at "freehanding" these........You can also drill through a block of scrap wood as a jig, to keep the alignment, if you are not as skilled (or not as confident) with a drill.

If I ever needed to reverse the work, I can glue a "plug" of wood and the strap button (plus the "Felt" piece) would conceal the work......

Best bass gear has the flush and dual design, ranging from $15 for chrome, $16 for black and $19 for gold, per set.

Whoa! That's some wear! I've used both and I prefer Dunlaps. I've never seen the recessed Dunlaps...rad cool!!I like that smooth profile! Did you have to do much reaming out? How much $$$ for the set?

it scares me a little to try something like this.. by the outcome is awesome... Spector should have these from the factory... very stealthy

I'm talking to him right now, he seems to be a Spector lover as well. I'm going to point him in the direction of the club. He's owned 5 Spectors, and wants to buy a fretless US NS5 in the future. Seems like a really good guy. The bass has an Aguilar OBP-1 preamp, so I'm excited to try something other then the Tonepump.

Stuart calls this finish "Coral Reef". An amazing NS-4H2 with OBP-3 Circuit (thus the larger stacked knob). This one arrived before the New Year... so I had it about a month before it was shipped to the dealer that purchased it. It sounded great. And the finish was just stunning.

Hi there Spector owners!

I've been told that this is THE place to ask about all things Spector-y. First though, I just wanna say that after trawling through this part, and part 25 of the club, Spector makes the most beautiful basses I've ever seen, and I'm a real classic-lover.

Okay, so this easter I'm coming to the US for a few weeks, and I'm hoping to pick up a Fender Jag bass (yippee). But also, I have money left over from that, and I've been thinking of picking up a Legend Classic IV in Holoflash (my god, that finish!).

However, I'm a little concerned about it. I'll be buying without playing or seeing it (impossible to do so for me with ANY bass) and I've never played a Spector before. However, I've been told Spector basses have the punch I love (I like the tones of Jazz Basses, Stingrays etc, quite bright, but with some dirt). Also, the bass appears to be near the bottom of the Spector range.

So my question is quite vague, but here it is nonetheless haha. First, is this bass high quality, or is it a cheap entry-level bass? And second, is it a safe bet with Spector's QC, ie is there a strong chance that this bass won't be a lemon? As opposed to so many Fenders I've played in shops with dodgy pickups and the like.

Answers, and generally any knowledge about Spectors, this bass in particular etc would be great!

I bought my legend4 classic 3 years ago sight unseen off eBay. And still have it! I love it! I've owned 9 Spectors in 3 years, the legend was my first. It's so high quality that it's unbelievable that it cost so little! You can dial in about every tone you wish. I came from a Fender Jazz IV. The legend4 beat it hands down! A whole lot more comfortable also. The neck is really comfortable, fast and very low action. The quilt maple on mine is dazzling! Very high quality build. This is not a bottom feeder bass. My second bass as well as my Forte4 & 5 are neck-thru's. I fell in love with the NT's. But still play my legend as it has a tone of its own as a bolt on does. You can buy it sight unseen and you won't be disappointed. Good luck!

I hadn't heard of Spector at the time, or seen anything by them. I just picked up this cool looking bass and played it and fell in love with it.

In short, go for it and don't look back. And don't blame us when you start buying Spectors left and right!

I got a local guy selling an all black one for $500. Seems to be in pretty good shape and he says "no fret wear". Be kinda cool to have bookend NS2A's in white and black. Fever's gaining headway.

Oh and here's living proof of my new one:

Obviously Different basses will feel different to different people, But i love mine. It's got a great growly sound to it, and I love the feel of the neck. It's slightly thicker front to back than what I was used to, but not too much. I can still get around on it with ease.

I really don't think you'll be disappointed if you go for it.

Just FYI but I replaced the pre and pick ups on my Euro 5LX with the Aggie OBP-3 / 40DC pups and now have the single/dual EMG 40TW pickups and Tone Pump w/trim pot for sale. I want to make it a package for $250. Pots included. My tech even drew up a little wiring diagram to help. PM me if interested.

This is really a crazy good price for this bass.
This is basically a NS-2A with a different shape body, PUP config and headstock.
This also has a Drop D tuner on it

Would $400.00 or just under be a decent price for a Legend Classic 5? I also see the picture in the ad doesn't have a bolt on neck. I thought the legend series had bolt on necks. I just don't want to get something that's not what I think it is. I love the look and sound of Spectors, just can't afford the USA or Euros yet. Maybe someday...........
