SPECTOR® Club - Part 26

How would I like a Rex 5 compared to my Euro 5LX? I know the preamp and pickups aren't the same, but I'm talking about feel. I looked on the Spector site and it looks like the Rex 5 has a little bit of a slimmer neck, is that true? Will I be happy with a Rex if I buy one?

The Rex5 has a very thin neck.... it plays really fast! Great bass. Its going to feel and sound different than your Euro but I think you would like it.

I've uploaded some video from our show last night..... its all with a flip camera.... not the best but not bad either :bassist:

Just bc I've seen these come up a little here recently-

in re: to the Legend stuff-
In college (and transitioning to my first "real" job") I had some pretty nice basses, but for what they were worth I wasn't getting I felt enough out of them. I ended up selling my very first Modulus and I think a Warwick, and got this model Legend 5 new from a GC.

It was an excellent bass, even paying "new" prices, and I used it hardcore for about 2 years straight and even recorded on it, etc.. Having played on some "RockBass" instruments, there really isn't a direct comparison even though the pricing can be more "competitive" between those 2 lines. Hell just a week or two ago I was looking at some of the higher end Legend stuff just for the sake of having a Spector that maybe would track better for what I needed. I would have no issue using this model again or any others.

So yeah- the USA stuff amazing but don't feel like you're getting "shortchanged" by "only" playing the Legend stuff. They still play and sound better than a lot of the mass produced USA-made stuff out there. I'd take a Legend Custom 5 over a USA SR5 and that's fact.

+1

As you go down the Spector line you do get less of the highend electronics and there are some differences but quality is not one of them. They all stand up excellently vs anything in the price range and even double the price in most cases.

Their very different animals. The neck on the Rex is thinner, but I didn't find the body as ergonomic as my NS5CR. I preferred the thicker neck too, actually. Their different tools though. My NS5CR did everything well but the Rex had the look and stage presence. Get a good strap too my Rex wanted to dive a little to 90 deg but stayed there. Having said that, I do want another Rex sometime in the near future. Just a way cool rockin bass.

I think I'm going to try the Rex basses, I figure if I decide it's not my thing sound wise I could work with the electronics or sell it. I have a question though, what's the main difference between these two models? I prefer the first one with the all black gloss finish. I'd probably get the sticker inlays as well.

Same bass. Most are trans black though. Never seen a solid black one personally. I would grab it!

They don't sound much different, and do have the spector tone.

I have been debating on buying a Rex bass for the past several months but never pulled the trigger for some reason. My daughter has been asking me to learn how to play bass though so I think I might re-visit it again since you guys are saying the neck is thinner and that would be good for her.

It has come down to either the Rex or a Legend but since her Dad is going to be playing it also, he will have the final say ;) I would probably throw a tonepump in it with some EMG DC's though but I will see how it sounds if I wind up getting one.
