Does anyone know which (if any) Spector preamps over the years are compatible with passive pickups?

I know the haz-copy obviously, but could a tonepump work? I'm looking into getting a NS-95 or NS20005, but not sure if I will like the preamp in them whatever it is its not listed on the website (just says 'active EQ), and right now I'm looking into what my options are (I don't really like EMG preamps)

I may stick with the stock pickups, or get another custom set from SGD like in my NS20004, but they will be passive.

Those come with the emg BT pre. The mm114 will work also (haz copy).

Nothing wrong with that man... I agree with you, the NS2As play great.. thin necks play great.... good weight...awesome basses.... I'm not opposed to buying and modding an ns2a either (I did that)


its funny when we start talking price on these used basses.... when you think of a $500 NS2A it will compare to and beat most other basses in the $1000+ range if not even more than that.

I wish they would come out with an NS2A reissue.... even at ful retail it would be a great value.

+1! I paid less than $300.00 for my former cherry burst NS-2A and it was an impressive player! I'd kept it and would've upgraded pups to active EMGs but I just couldn't grow into the color. Those basses are way under rated.

Not dedicated, I just tend to prefer the looks haha! I've also owned Ibanez SR's and enjoyed the sound and feel of them. I wish I could just forget the Jag and go custom with a Spector! haha. Basically I just wanted to make sure that this bass wouldn't leave me feeling like I'd bought a cheapie.

Sorry about continuously bringing the topic back to Fenders, (they're the only brand I know really really well) but what sort of quality would you say an average Classic Legend would correspond to on the Fender side of things? (eg, Squier, MIM, MIA etc)

My Legend 4 is 10X better than the Squier Jazz IV I had...and from other Fenders I've played I'd compare the Legend up with the MIA easily.

I drilled the screw hole slightly deeper, that gave my alignment for the forstner bit, to countersink it. It's about 7/8" deep.
If you have some decent skill with a corded or cordless drill, it only took me 10 minutes, from start to finish. I've done quite a few of these
on customer's instruments, so I've gotten good at "freehanding" these........You can also drill through a block of scrap wood as a jig, to keep the alignment, if you are not as skilled (or not as confident) with a drill.

If I ever needed to reverse the work, I can glue a "plug" of wood and the strap button (plus the "Felt" piece) would conceal the work......

Best bass gear has the flush and dual design, ranging from $15 for chrome, $16 for black and $19 for gold, per set.

I got a local guy selling an all black one for $500. Seems to be in pretty good shape and he says "no fret wear". Be kinda cool to have bookend NS2A's in white and black. Fever's gaining headway.

HOLY CRAP!! I just bought this bass today!! Through a series of coincidences, I found it this evening online, purchased it in person at the store 3 hours later. They had it listed listed as a Legend Classic 5 but it's neck through, (3 piece neck that runs all the way through the body to the tail of the bass, 2 piece body attached to the neck like wings on either side with what looks to be a quilt laminate over the top, black hardwear, brass nut, EMG HZs, made in Korea).

The salesman told me someone called on the phone and sounded real serious about purchasing it (which I thought was a ******** sales pitch) I told him if he threw in a pack of strings that it might give me more incentive to drive down that close to closing on a Sat night.. He agreed to throw in the strings. I was still on the fence about driving 45 minutes at almost 7pm, so I flipped a coin and now I'm digging the crap out of this bass!!

Awesome, thank you. That seems pretty tight compared to what I am used to. I have thick fingers, and I play fingerstyle and some slap. I'm not sure if I could make an adjustment to spacing that is so narrow, but I am tempted to give it a try. Rather than starting out by ordering a custom 5 bolt on with wide spacing, I thought it might be better (from a financial standpoint) to give one of the euro 5's an extended test drive. That way I could see if a Spector is for me prior to dropping the bills on a USA model. I've found some good deals on used euro lx's, whereby I could probably sell them without taking much of a hit if I decided that a Spector wasn't for me, or if I wanted to order USA fiver with wide spacing.

Argggg!!! I TOLD Lima I was not going to get a five string Spector. Last week!!!

But my thinking was almost exactly the same. I Love Love Love my Euro 4 LX in Black Cherry! The band I play with seems to always need a dropped D and some songs would really be good all the way down to low B.

So...... I happened to see a Black Cherry Euro 5 LX on Bass Central's website. A TB member posted about a good value on a USA model. I got to looking around. Then made the fatal mistake of calling and chatting..... Um hm.....

Being a repeat victim, er Customer I mean, I got a really great deal and the 5er arrives Tomorrow! I Promise Lima, I will NOT go looking for the UPS truck! Lol..... just like I said I was NOT going to get a 5 string Spector!

So now I will be the very proud owner of two Cherry Red LX's and my gorgeous NS-Blue!

Cant wait to get the 5 string! And I imagine if I like it as much as the 4 string Euro and it actually adapts to me (they Know me and subtly pull me in over time......) I am sure a USA 5 string cant be far behind....

Lol.... oh my..... Spectors.....

This is really a crazy good price for this bass.
This is basically a NS-2A with a different shape body, PUP config and headstock.
This also has a Drop D tuner on it

This was my old NS-94 and the asking price is crazy for the bass. The bass in in excellent shape no nicks or deep scratches at all, pretty much no fret ware. This is a great player and I would still have it but I needed a five string for a project and I have my NS2A to cover the Spector love.
