Just a couple of quick questions for all you Spectorphiles...
I know this has probably been asked many times, and I have done some google searches, but what exactly is the string spacing on a neck through euro lx 5 string? I have seen some people say it is 18mm (which would be the same as a Ric 4001, right?) and some say 17mm, some say 17.5. If the string spacing is comparable to my Ric, (Which I know is tighter than a Fender P or J) I think I could handle it. I'm not too concerned about spacing at the nut, moreso spacing at the bridge, over the pickups, etc.
For the euro 5 strings neck through basses, aren't the bodies always solid maple wings? I saw one that a seller had listed as having an alder body.
Have their been any significant changes to the euro neck through models in the last decade or so? (other than electronics) One that has caught my eye dates to 2004.

thats is what I can tell from the website.... it also is a little difficult to find the 5 string on the website, maybe the guy just got lazy...

Actually it came down to trying to figure out the best way to display guitars which have multiple string configurations but are basically the same model.
PJ was of the opinion to do "one" page with all the models listed one after the other on the pages and I thought they should each have their own.
So we agreed to try it both ways. And it was easier to do this with the Rex.
But you're right. The Rex model should have separate pages for the 4 and 5 strings.
And honestly since the site went live over 1.5 years ago no one has ever said anything. But we agreed that the separate pages worked fine.
It's not been a case of me being lazy so much as the "squeeky wheel gets the oil". And no one before now has ever commented on it. So thanks! I actually appreciate the reminder.
Part of what I'm doing post NAMM is getting a ton of data re-arranged and split up.
Shortly the SpectorBass.com website will have only info on basses. It's getting a minor facelift/update and all of the history and general news is being moved to a totally new website at Spectorguitars.com.
This site will be about Stuart Spector Design, LTD and Stuart. It'll be the company history site that I think someone like Stuart deserves. There will be links to both the guitar and bass websites of course, but general news, the video links to the DVD content, etc... will be here.
Then the Spectorguitar.com website is getting flushed out. I've had the chance to play and shoot ALL of the Spector guitar models now (Lance Harvill's - Arms of the Sun with Rex Brown - his custom RX-GT electric guitar is sitting in my office next to the Black Pearl right now) and I'm going to really jazz that site up. Some cool stuff coming with the guitar lines. And some big-name artists are playing them, loving them, and signing up to be Spector Electric Guitar artists.
Lastly, Stuart and PJ really like what I've done with SpectorCentral and have told me that I can call it "the official" fan site if I want. So that's a cool thing. And there's so much new content there. Some really cool new things.
The Marketplace doesn't seem to work, no one really wants to use it. So that's going away. But I'm replacing that section with a music review. I got handed over a dozen CDs with music generated by Spector Artists and Spector players at NAMM. And honestly it's all really great stuff. From Bang Tango's new album which has one song I can't get out of my mind... curse you Lance Eric!!! To Permanent Reverse, Mobile Deathcamp, Jean Marx Express, John Montagna, Lane Baldwin, Quintin Berry... the list goes on. And so I'm thinking I'd do a little music review section.
So that goes without saying that so many of you here make your own music... and what was it I got accused of not to long ago... not showing love to the "peeons" or however he worded it... LOL. I want to invite ALL of you to send me your links and if you've got disks (mail them to me) and here's my deal, I'm not a negative person so I'll never trash anyone's work. Expression and creativity take so many forms and to me music is never about the technical skill of the musician but about the heart and effort they put into their work.
My reviews will mainly focus on the bass tone and/or guitar tone/sound of the music where Spector Basses and Guitars are the focus.
So keep that in mind. I don't want any of you to get upset with me that I'm not interested in bass and guitar tracks that don't at least have a bass or guitar being played that's made by Spector.
Now that being said, yes it'd be perfectly OK to submit tracks that have whatever brand under the sun of guitar so long as the bass is a Spector bass. This isn't the same thing as the Official Promotional Spector Catalog on DVD that I did before the holidays for NAMM that was designed to promote both the guitars and basses.
This will be for fans, it's not really officially (meaning PJ and Stuart won't be approving the content) attached to Spector other than they've agreed to let me call it the Official Fan Website. So in this anything is game as long as there's at least one Spector in the track.
All of this is coming soon! And then I take a vacation... LOL. Actually my early summer/last spring vacation is going to be me going and staying with Stuart at his house and spending a few days fishing and just hanging out. And of course perhaps doing one or two little interviews for the documentary I've been working on for over a year now.

The members of this club are one of the best resources I have in regards to feedback on the website. And since I was contracted to manage that website, letting me know when there's a problem or something doesn't work right or is difficult to find, is actually a great thing and would never offend me.
In the end I'm just a fan like you all... and just like you all I know if you were in my place you'd want to do your best to help this great company and awesome people who make these instruments that we all love.
So no worries. My ego doesn't work that way. If you're sincerely trying to help me make the Spector site better, then I am never offended.
Come at me with some personally insulting stuff and I'm just as human as the next person and I may decide to rip into you and spill your electronic entrails all over this forum. But usually I'm in pretty good spirits... LOL.
Seriously. Just kidding. No offense at all about the Rex-5 stuff. Worship is totally right. I need to fix it. It was something I'd totally forgotten about until now.

Hey Patrick I actually meant the seller got lazy.. I know you are any but lazy! lol But I'm glad it was a constructive comment. I ended up clicking on the signature link for rex brown under the professional series basses.... it had both 4 and 5 string listed there.
I can't wait to see the new updates on all the sites! Keep rocking out...

Ok, now how cool is that? I think I can pretty much speak for most people here and say we are all totally jealous of you getting to do that
Actually Spector string spacing is always figured in USA measurements.
So the accepted spacing of ALL Euro and USA (except the USA Wide-5 Bolt-on) is 0.66 inches. Or 16.764mm
Since the introduction of the EuroLX models in 2004, the bodies have been a mix of Alder (approx 45%) on the back, a slice of walnut in the center (approx 10%) and Maple (either flame or quilt) on the top (approx 45%). The EX models have the same mix of Alder and Walnut with either Poplar Burl, Spalt Maple, etc... for the top.
Stuart did this because the Maple available in Europe is a different density than the USA AAAA Maple used here and the tone (to Stuart's ears) was different enough to warrant a composite mix of different woods/densities to make the tone match that of the USA model.
Remember, everything about the Euro Series is designed to match the TONE of the USA Models as closely as possible.
Since 2004 the only significant change would be the addition of the output volume trimpot to the TonePump circuit sometime in late 2008. This has been the only change since 2004.

Very cool, thanks for letting us know about some of the changes coming to the site. In case you're taking suggestions, I think it would be cool to list the fingerboard width and neck thickness at different locations, like is currently available for some of the U.S. models, on more of the different models so it's easier for people to judge and compare the neck dimensions and differences between the models. Just a thought, I'm sure it will turn out great.

Yeah I still have to fight totally geeking out when I'm around Stuart.
He just moved into a new house and at NAMM (at dinner on night) we were talking and he was like, "You need to come and stay with me and hang out... I've got a killer guest room in my new house."
And I said, "Name a date and I'll be there." LOL.
One of the things I love about Stuart is that he gets all fan-boy like when a famous musician he likes comes into the booth at NAMM and for us... myself and I know the majority of members of the club, we get like that around him. Which he totally doesn't understand. LOL. One of the things I love about him. He's the most down to earth guy. He has no idea how famous he is. And he doesn't care. He just loves making guitars. That's it.

Yes! I totally agree with this and as I get my hands on these other models I've been doing that.
It WILL be a part of the site eventually for every model.
Oddly, and this will sound really weird... but I only typically get to see or photograph the USA models. Because each one is made to order, they are all sort of a "one of a kind" deal. So when PJ and Stuart decide they want to pay the expense of shipping stuff to me to photograph, 99% of the time it's USA guitars. I'd love to get my hands on a bunch of Legends and Euros to shoot and do measurements and circuit diagrams for.
Awesome, thank you. That seems pretty tight compared to what I am used to. I have thick fingers, and I play fingerstyle and some slap. I'm not sure if I could make an adjustment to spacing that is so narrow, but I am tempted to give it a try. Rather than starting out by ordering a custom 5 bolt on with wide spacing, I thought it might be better (from a financial standpoint) to give one of the euro 5's an extended test drive. That way I could see if a Spector is for me prior to dropping the bills on a USA model. I've found some good deals on used euro lx's, whereby I could probably sell them without taking much of a hit if I decided that a Spector wasn't for me, or if I wanted to order USA fiver with wide spacing.
Again, thanks for the info! I'm pretty knowledgeable when it comes to Fenders over the years, but the Spectors are a whole new animal.
Does anyone know which (if any) Spector preamps over the years are compatible with passive pickups?
I know the haz-copy obviously, but could a tonepump work? I'm looking into getting a NS-95 or NS20005, but not sure if I will like the preamp in them whatever it is its not listed on the website (just says 'active EQ), and right now I'm looking into what my options are (I don't really like EMG preamps)
I may stick with the stock pickups, or get another custom set from SGD like in my NS20004, but they will be passive.

A Tonepump would definitely work with passive pickups, the Rebop uses the Tonepump and EMG HZ pickups, which are the passive model EMGs.

Cool, I figure since I got lucky when I found a haz-copy for my NS20004, for the 5-string (whichever of the 2 I get) I'll try the tonepump first, I like the idea of having a "too hot" output
