So I get to work this Monday morning, and not having a chance to stay caught up on the club over the weekend, I see I have like 150 posts to read. I think "man, maybe it's best if I just read a page or two back and not worry about all those posts, because really, what could I have missed?!?" And then I see this finish. Wow. If the day ever came that I did a US model, this would be the finish....awesome. Now, I'm going to go buy some bibs to keep around my computer when looking at pictures like this, because it's embarassing to whipe drool off with my shirt sleeve!

Thanks! :cool: I wish I had the money to keep it, I was going to re-build/trick it out (new pups, pre, tuners, tremolo etc) but I am really am GAS'ing for this amp!

This amp will make my Forte sound even MORE amazing...if that's possible! :bassist: :D

Well guys,

I got to take my new to me NS 2A and mix it up with the band yesterday (5 piece, loud, hard rock cover band) and holy crap you guys were right. No bedroom tone tricks...thing thing slays in the mix. Bright and poppy when it needs to be but can be "tamed" very easily with EQ and pickups. A very versatile bass which is quite a nice thing in a cover band.

I have always love my EBMM's for their sound and the way the necks played. This Spector is right there IMO in playability and the sound....well....it's just got IT.

Very happy new owner!

Now how about that Forte 4....?:cool:

Since you mentioned EB/MM's, I actually like them alright, but they just aren't "happening" in the thick low to mid-mids like the Spectors have. They have uber lows, really nice and crisp highs which if your guitarists mix their tone mid-heavy it works, but for example in my band my guys play/mix pretty high-mid heavy so I have a lot to fill in for that 150-500hz or so range which is right where I dial in.
There was a pretty noticeable gap when I went to the SR5 that my NS-5 had been doing a good job of filling.

Yeah I would agree that would be the case with the Stingray's but I play the Sterling (which is wired in series) and as that thing is a beast in the low mids. Dare I say almost too much at times. With it being so thick (low mids) there, it can be pretty cloudy at times. It's definitely a big, thick and aggressive bass, which I like, but the Spector just seems to be sweeter in the mids. Maybe that's a nice way of saying a tad less aggressive but it's tone is very pleasing without being overbearing like my Sterling. It'll just beat you about the head until you submit.

So you think there's that much of a difference in the mids w/ the SR vs the Sterling? (sorry Spector guys for this lol) Interesting. I'd actually like to have one in the stable just bc I like how they record as a "different" (not better/worse) flavor to my regular babies....

I have a MM (frankenbass not EB) and I have two switches on the 2-band preamp, active/passive and parallel/single coil/series for the pickup, and damned if I don't love series mode.

The highs/high mids are a bit harsh I find, wheras the spector is more smooth, and I find sits better in the mix.

I think the stingray pickup is always wired in parallel but I could be wrong haven't played a new one in years. Series is a different beast.

I like the EBMM, they have a sound all their own. I own a EBMM 4HH Fretless and want a EBMM 5HH.

But Spector is where my heart lies!

...and from a new Forte owner, YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY GET ONE!!!! they are AMAZING! :bassist:

I had similar experiences with my Sterling. The mids were really pronounced, highs were borderline harsh, but there was not alot of bass oomph without really clouding up the mix with the preamp. My Spectors just seem to open up across all frequencies without any cloudiness or harshness....driving tone for sure, but not overly dirty or unpleasant. My amp also plays a part in that drive, but the Spectors handle that amp so much better.

A big part of that is your bass was a single H, IMO. I've owned and played H's and HH's and the HH's always sound a bit fuller and have more low end to them.

yeah sorry for the derail guys...

On the mids SR vs. Sterling...yeah the Sterling is much stronger there. The SR's are downright scooped compared to the Sterlings. I've had a few SR's, currently do too but the Sterling is a different beast.

I've attached some VERY ROUGH scratch tracks of the Sterling for your listening pleasure. This was recorded through my GK 800RB (EQ neutral) through Pro Tools with no effects. May give you an idea on how it sounds in the mix. Derail off.

I was going to say "I don't know how anyone can make a decision on what kind of USA bass they want...." but I guess the answer is... You get more then one lol

Mind set on placing an order for a USA... That coral reef finish with a Birdseye maple fretboard could look almost too good for me to play... But I want haha
