Did you swap out the hardware to black, or did it come that way? My greenie has the gold hardware, and I've ordered the black to replace it.

First off thanks for all the kind welcomes. I could barely sleep last night. I was in the bed at about 10:30 getting ready to sack out, sat up and told my wife "I gotta go play it some more." She's used to it I guess.

A couple observations. Again, I have a Kramer era NS2A with the Haz Copy and active EMG's.

1. The volume pot for each pickup is "backward" as I'm used to it? Split pups is the rearward knob, Bridge is the forward most. Is this normal or is mine wired funny?

2. This thing has a crushing tone in my "beat lab". I won't have a chance to put it in a band setting until Sunday and can't wait. I love the tone best with both pups full on because it just growls so hard. It does tend to scoop out a bit there and am wondering if, much like a J bass, if it'll get buried a tad in the mix like that? I know everyone has their preferences but how do you guys like running your PJ's?

I'm a pretty big EBMM fan and my Sterling HH has been my go-to live bass because it sounds so BIG in my rock band. The humbucker in series does lack a little clarity. The Spector seems to have a ton of clarity much like a Jazz....just a bright piano-like tone. I really like that....just hoping it comes out in the band mix. I'll definitely have enough power to push it with my GK MB800 and 215's.

3. When I took off all the strings to replace them and clean the board the nut fell out. Anyway, not a huge deal. It's the brass/bone nut and just wanted to confirm that the bone goes up to the headstock and brass end on the fretboard?

Anyway, the honeymoon is definitely on and like many of you have stated I know for a fact that this won't be my last one. This thing just growls and plays so nicely I know I'll be in the classifieds far more often.

someone said it, but the control blend is an easy fix. you WIL NOT have a hard time cutting through the mix. I roll to my P pup a little more than the J. I find without the P I can get lost a little in the mix.

bass %55 treble %60 (%100 for 2 songs)

I also run a GK rig with the 700rb-ii so it I have a nice growl dialed in on the amp side also. I've never played the MB stuff but I'm sure you can dial in some growl and let that Spector add to the growl....

can't wait to see some pics.... is it the white one that was for sale in the classifieds?

I like to roll my blend toward the P a little, there's a nice sweet spot there. Bass n treb about 60% or so.

Ok this is wierd......

I threw my back out at work tues. Lower lumber / si region. Been layed up in bed for 2 days, appt for the Chiro this afternoon. Done this before, lots of pain, no fun but my Chiro is awesome.

We have our first show comming up on the 19th. We don't get much practice time so we had practice for 2 hrs last night. Really painfull just walking, I had to sit and play. Definatly no fun. Went to sleep with the heating pad n all as usual. Wake up this morning and my back feels great! Still gonna get adjusted, but 90% or better of the pain is gone. This is wierd. Chalk up another to the healing powers of Spector!

When God was fed up with all the F basses in this world he said "Stu go talk to Ned and build a real bass" and thus the healing power Spectors...God's chosen bass

Since you're pro passive you might want to look at the Mike Kroger sig. bass. It comes in the Legend line and USA made.

The "backward" Volume knobs is from the person who modified to the active EMGs by connecting the PUPs to the wrong terminals on the Haz copy.
I recently did the same thing myself. When you look at the Haz copy board inside the cavity, the place you think should be the P Pups is actually the J and vice versa.
You can either just get used to but it’s a quick fix inside. Just swap the 2 connections.

I ran into this when upgrading my NS2A to active EMGs. However, I was careful to note the original wiring and polarity of the stock passive pups before I removed them and it was wired in this "reverse" manner when I got it. I took pictures of the connections on the preamp labelled F PU and R PU which I took to mean front (P pup) and Rear (J pup) and put them in the post for reference.

I considered just swapping them as Lima suggested to make the volume knob layout more logical but then I worried that the preamp might be voiced for a more bass-heavy input from the F PU connection and a more treble-heavy input from the R PU connection so I just left them as I found them.

I suppose its possible that someone switched the original pup wiring before I got the bass.

The only reply to my original post was grendle who confirmed that this "reversed" volume knob layout sounded right to him.

I'd be curious to hear more about your experiences and whether swapping the inputs would affect the tone.

Hey, has anyone replaced their schiller tuners with gotoh? I can't find schallers that are direct replacements for the gold ones I have now. The Gotoh look to be direct replacements, but I don't know what post hole size I need. Anyone know???

A custom build for Colin Edwin... this bass is pretty freakin' amazing. I loved the deep rich tone. The dual MMs with the ebony fretless neck is pretty killer.

JPS...Do you have a video of this one being played? I'd love to hear this baby!!! PLEASE!

I absolutely agree! That bass is STUNNING! I think I am going to start saving for a 5 string version!

I would also be curious about a video/audio clip of this one being played! I have recently gotten into playing a fretless and now I'm obsessed with them!

Hey just read over your post. I have the same bass and same "problem". I think I'm just going to give it a whirl and see if I get used to it. I honestly think I'll be running them both at 100% so it may not be a big deal. I'm just worried about times on stage when I have "battle fog" and if I need to favor one or the other.

I have the mighty mite copy and the posts near the battery go for the p pup and the posts closer to the jack go to the J pup.... they are labeled f p and rp. My blend knob when rolled forward (rotate clockwise looking at bass) goes to my J pup,, rolled back (counter-clockwise) goes to my P pup

you are correct. I was scanning bestbassgear.com and skimmed over it because I was looking for the shape. The 5 string looks more like a soapbar and the 4 look like the traditional MM style.

I think the next bass I purchase from Spector will be a 5 string BO fretless with the Bart and OBP-3 combo!

The M4 works for the Schaller tuners which should be the ones on your NS2A. I can double check mine when I get home.
