P.S. Does anyone know if it's possible to re-stain an oil stained instrument? Say, for example, a Forte started turning grey due to lack of waxing/lots of wear. Would it be possible to restore that bass' finish to its original quality?

I'm no expert, but I have to believe that if you lightly sanded this hypothetical Forte and re-waxed it it would bring back a lot, if not all of its original glory!

That's really good to hear; I've been looking for a guy to do quality set-ups on my basses.
I'll have to make the trip to Conroe to do business with him.
Does he do tube amp 'look-overs', too?

He actually is in N Spring so it's about 10 mins closer than Conroe. He seriously does the best setups ever and I've used some quality guys before.
He just got my singers 78 LP Studio back together after the headstock was clean off. Looks amazing.

However he isn't an amp guy... :(
I've asked haha. I'm still looking for one just in case.

Spectors I used to have:

NS-2A
Rebop5-DLX-EX
NS-2JA-R

Spectors I still want ;)

NS-2
possibly a Coda Deluxe

and...if it becomes a reality

A Rebop 5 MM

I usually order my strings online, as the music stores in Nashville SUCK at keeping light bass strings in stock! Every time I go into GC, I leave disappointed that they don't have a decent selection of single strings or even the hi-beam 95-40 set...in fact they don't carry ANY 95-40 string sets...AT ALL!

So I end up buying a few sets a couple times a year to have them at my disposal!

Our local music stores want $68-89.00 for most bass strings. So I order online. A no brainer for me!

I figured my string addiction can help others. :hiding: :bassist:

I have 8 different types of strings recorded on my Forte-4

Pick your favorite and enjoy :)

Well my first Spector ever showed up today. Ummm, errrrrr, uhhhhhhh.....................ahhhhh, ehhhhhhhhhhh.

Where have you been all my life?! Holy friggin' cow what a great tone. I got a Kramer era NS2A plucked out of the TB classifieds. I know, no pics, no bass but that'll have to wait until tomorrow.

I really like a growly bass and this thing delivers in spades. It has the active EMG's and Haz Lab copy preamp. Do they get growlier than that? I have a lot of catching up to do on all things Spector because I don't think this will be my last.

Pics tomorrow.....

Congrats,
Welcome to the club, hang around here and you will get tons of info very fast. :D :bassist:

Very very fast indeed.

Well since I am no longer getting a forte my search is back on for an NS-2A with original electronics so I can put vintage Dimarzio's in it like the earliest NS-2's. And of course I'm picky so it can't be red, white, or black. Gonna be a long wait since I missed that nice blue one on ebay cause I thought I was getting a forte :crying:

Congrats man. The above statement is so true to everyone after their first Spector purchase.

I'm waiting on one from TB class. too. Can't wait! It just has a little further to travel. ;)

Congrats on your NS-2A... and "the Fever"... which will get worse.

As far as growlier... the haz copies on the NS-2A were pretty good. Perhaps a USA NS-2 might be a little more growly, but honestly with active EMGs and that haz copy you're getting into the area where the margin for difference may be 10-15% if that much.

Strings help... as does the amp your play through.

But just to be fair... don't say you were not warned... pretty soon that bass will consume your mind... and the fever will be full-blown active. And you'll end up like a lot of us... a room full of Spectors, an empty bank account, and tons of temptation to start selling off non-vital organs to science to finance yet more Spectors. :D

It's a great disease to have.

$20 says by the end of this year you'll own a minimum of 3 and forget any other tone / bass existed! :D:D
Welcome to the Sanctuary for Ultimate Spector Addicts.

Check this out:
I've seen some pretty bad scams on eBay but this one takes the cake:
$450 for a Spector Doug Wimbish Euro and there are 2 available. No feedback and the name is a bunch of letters:

eBay Australia: Buy new & used fashion, electronics & home d

and if the image in that auction doesn't look familiar, check out this legit auction:

eBay Australia: Buy new & used fashion, electronics & home d

Too good to be true? I'll say. You think they would make the price somewhat more realistic? :rollno:
