So today was a new bass day for me. I purchased a Legend 6 and I have it tuned E to E as I will be using for melodic riffs and chords.

Actually at the moment its EADGGC, I got stupid and attempted to tune it to a high F before and I snaped the .028 string I will order a few replacements from Jason tonight.

Yes, I did go out and find the UPS driver at 11:AM

I am very impressed with the overall quality of the the bass. The neck is really smooth and the fret work looks great. For the price range, this is a great bass,
but do we expect anything else from Spector.

The only weak spot are the passive SSD PUPs since I am spoiled from active EMGs.

Pulled out my Euro and tried it out with my new Aguilar rig. Still amazed how I can get that aggressive Spector tone to a more mellow jazzy tone all in one. But this is a good illness.

Its also a great motivation to clear "old stuff" out of your garage. I have been selling old gear and other misc stuff non-stop.

Here is a photo that was taken by JPS of my Forte that shows how beautiful the wood grain is on the Pau Ferro.

In person its even more amazing.

This will be sacrilegious to most of you guys and I'm not sure why but I don't really dig inlays much these days. I actually like the look of a plain fingerboard. Really tempted to start saving for a Forte 5:

Not sacrilegious at all since a Forte is just a beautiful bass. Yes, the crown inlays are really cool but the clean look of the Forte really shows off the fau ferro fretboard which is a work of art in itself.

Actually I'm going TO GC on the way to practice haha...
I meant to ask you- are either the Hi Beams or LoRiders tapered on the B or E strings at the bridge/ball end?
I probably am going to get a set of each and see how they do.

They are not tapered but like Lima mentioned, you will need to take a set of needle nose pliers and crimp the end right where it goes into the bridge. A .125 goes in very easily but I tried a .130 Lo Rider in my Euro 5LX and was not able to go in no matter how much crimping I tried but when I tried it on my Rebop 5, it went in no problem.

Rick Banc mentioned Sadowsky strings which are supposedly very close in sound to the DR's. The Blue labels are not as tight and are like the Hi Beams while the Black Label ones have more tension and are supposedly close to the Lo Riders. Not sure if they sell them at your local place though since I know you want to be able to pick them up on your way.

Yeah I know there's a lot of cool stuff out there, I'm just looking to try and not be dependent on the interwebz for strings when needed, but who knows.
It may come down to using whatever I want in like custom gauges or makers on my NS-5 since that's my main gigging bass and usually won't need an "immediate" change vs. keeping something more "stock" on my to-be Ibby and the Charvel.

I usually order my strings online, as the music stores in Nashville SUCK at keeping light bass strings in stock! Every time I go into GC, I leave disappointed that they don't have a decent selection of single strings or even the hi-beam 95-40 set...in fact they don't carry ANY 95-40 string sets...AT ALL!

So I end up buying a few sets a couple times a year to have them at my disposal!

The Forte's have really grown on me.
I love the Crowns, but I've always loved the look of a clean board also.
I really dislike dots.

This has hit me too in the last week!

I don't know if it's because I've been looking at a lot of fretless stuff... The only thing I can't get over is the tone of a certain someone's lucky green Ns-5 having a 18v USA and that tone haunting my dreams lol

Hey, does anyone have any thoughts on the Spector Performer 5-String? I see it on Amazon, and because I'm a stickler for passive basses, but love the Spector NS design, I would like to know if anyone had some thoughts...

The crowns are great and I used to be into inlays big time bat lately I love the simplicity and classiness of a plain fretboard, no dots or inlays.

Lima: I've used the long necks with success on a Warwick 6er but you're right about the taper being too long for most basses.

Well to say you don't like the inlays and follow that up with "I think I'm going to get a forte" ....... you are in the clear.... its funny... I have owned 4 Spectors and none of them have had the inlays..... I have added the decals to a couple but all of them just had dots.... doesn't make me like them any less..

FYI, Bass Central has a ridiculously discounted NS-5XL for sale on their site. It was only used for 3 weeks by someone and still includes the warranty.

Just an FYI to you or anybody:
I'm thinking of swapping my DC45's for a 45P and/or a 45J or a combination of one (45P neck postition) or both (45P neck, 45J bridge).
I love the DC's. I just want to see if I can make the 6 tonally more consistant with my 4 with PJ's.
The DC's are a little more scooped and bottom heavy than the PJ's.
So if you run across one or a set of these and still want the DC's, let me know. Maybe we'll trade.

I'm also toying with trying the Carvin radiused pups as they seem to be the same size as EMG 45's.
The one bad thing about EMG's (or any non-radiused pups) on 5 and 6 strings is it's hard to keep your B and C strings from being appreciably louder than the rest due to being closer to the flat pup on a properly radiused (matching the board) settup.

Cool! Let me know if you decide to uninstall them, I'd definitely like to take them off of your hands! I'll be on the lookout for a 45P and 45J. I'm going check the DC's out with the TonePump for a while, but I'm seriously considering going with my initial thoughts and getting an Aguilar OBP-3 prewired from BestBassGear.

I definitely know what you're talking about. I've lowered both neck and bridge pups on the bass side for this reason...but then it makes the Single Coil mode that much lower in volume!
