First off thanks for all the kind welcomes. I could barely sleep last night. I was in the bed at about 10:30 getting ready to sack out, sat up and told my wife "I gotta go play it some more." She's used to it I guess.
A couple observations. Again, I have a Kramer era NS2A with the Haz Copy and active EMG's.
1. The volume pot for each pickup is "backward" as I'm used to it? Split pups is the rearward knob, Bridge is the forward most. Is this normal or is mine wired funny?
2. This thing has a crushing tone in my "beat lab". I won't have a chance to put it in a band setting until Sunday and can't wait. I love the tone best with both pups full on because it just growls so hard. It does tend to scoop out a bit there and am wondering if, much like a J bass, if it'll get buried a tad in the mix like that? I know everyone has their preferences but how do you guys like running your PJ's?
I'm a pretty big EBMM fan and my Sterling HH has been my go-to live bass because it sounds so BIG in my rock band. The humbucker in series does lack a little clarity. The Spector seems to have a ton of clarity much like a Jazz....just a bright piano-like tone. I really like that....just hoping it comes out in the band mix. I'll definitely have enough power to push it with my GK MB800 and 215's.
3. When I took off all the strings to replace them and clean the board the nut fell out.
Anyway, not a huge deal. It's the brass/bone nut and just wanted to confirm that the bone goes up to the headstock and brass end on the fretboard?
Anyway, the honeymoon is definitely on and like many of you have stated I know for a fact that this won't be my last one. This thing just growls and plays so nicely I know I'll be in the classifieds far more often.

Okay guys, I finally uploaded the soundclips showcasing the new electronics I put in my Spector Legend 6 (EMG 45TW's and Tonepump pre). So here they are, along with a few pics of the build, just the important ones. As I said before when I first finished, everything was actually somewhat easy, especially since I didn't need to hardwire the pups to anything. The Tonepump was soldered to the bridge volume pot via two little terminals on the back of the PCB. Everything else was basically pushing the quick-connect connectors onto the terminals and wiring the TonePump to the output jack.Everything worked great for the first day, until after transporting it to church I started getting static on the bridge volume pot. One of the guys at church (DIY Master Sensei!) looked at my connections and told me the black and white wires from the Tonepump where soldered to close together and the signal was probably jumping terminals. I went home and fixed it, everything is great. I'm going to order the Euro knobs to replace the current ones this weekend, I'm also wondering if a separate battery compartment can be routed as my control cavity is now a hot stinkin' mess. Anyways, here are the clips; Fingerstyle with a little slap in the middle. I don't know how to play with a pick, otherwise I would've demoed the sound of that for you guys. [SIZE="3"][COLOR="Red"]DC=dual coil, SC=single coil[/COLOR][/SIZE]. With every variation I had the pickup volume(s) at 100%. Tonepump trim pot is at 50%, bass and treble are boosted about 45% (from what I can tell, apparently the TP cuts bass and treble by like 3-4db too...) I did these quick, so there will be mistakes.......don't judge me! LOL

Bass looks great. And groovy playing to. I love natural finishes. I usually run my Euro5LX with the neck SC and the bridge DC. Which setting do you like best?

You can get a more aggressive sound by running through a tube preamp. I love the sound of my NS4 & 5CRs through my Boogie Carbine M6. I have yet to find a better combination for sound.

The "backward" Volume knobs is from the person who modified to the active EMGs by connecting the PUPs to the wrong terminals on the Haz copy.
I recently did the same thing myself. When you look at the Haz copy board inside the cavity, the place you think should be the P Pups is actually the J and vice versa.
You can either just get used to but its a quick fix inside. Just swap the 2 connections.
Everyone has their preference, but I usually run my Spectors at both PUPs fully open or blended equal on the ones with a balance knob.
I have seen nuts fall out on these older models, I havent seen a brass/bone nut in person but I would assume there would be a more rounded part? That would face towards the top of the headstock.

I like to roll my blend toward the P a little, there's a nice sweet spot there. Bass n treb about 60% or so.

Ok this is wierd......
I threw my back out at work tues. Lower lumber / si region. Been layed up in bed for 2 days, appt for the Chiro this afternoon. Done this before, lots of pain, no fun but my Chiro is awesome.
We have our first show comming up on the 19th. We don't get much practice time so we had practice for 2 hrs last night. Really painfull just walking, I had to sit and play. Definatly no fun. Went to sleep with the heating pad n all as usual. Wake up this morning and my back feels great! Still gonna get adjusted, but 90% or better of the pain is gone. This is wierd. Chalk up another to the healing powers of Spector!
I threw my back out at work tues. Lower lumber / si region. Been layed up in bed for 2 days, appt for the Chiro this afternoon. Done this before, lots of pain, no fun but my Chiro is awesome.

I think you're thinking of the oil finishes. The Forte's are a matte poly. I don't think you'd want to sand it....

Congrats on the Spector! I came from a EBMM Sterling as well. That bass cut through fine and sounded pretty good, but when I ran my SPector through my gig rig for the first time, it was a world of difference. Granted, it is a tube amp and is going to react different, and mine has a tonepump and not the Haz copy, but I think/hope you have similar results. THe bass was just much more present without being muddy, treble cut through the mix without being harsh, and the mids were dinvine....I'm not saying the EBMM sounded bad, but the Spector really opened up all three frequency ranges for me.
man, this is an urban legend that is starting to gain traction! I just need to make sure I play every day then!
I have to say, that green is really sweet and the black hardware really brings it out even more. Beautiful bass man. The blue one is nice too but I have a soft spot for green.
Since you're pro passive you might want to look at the Mike Kroger sig. bass. It comes in the Legend line and USA made.

Indeed! I just re-read that OP and realized I misspoke! I was thinking oil finish...please excuse my confused mind!
Oil finish can be sanded and waxed
I would imagine Stain/matte can be refinished by a skilled hand and proper tools.
...after the Nashville flood, I saw $10-20K guitars that were completely submerged for days be rebuilt/refinished to look as good as new

Thanks! The black hardware was an unintentional benefit. It was ordered with gold h/w. My dealer sent me a pic of it when it came in, and I had a thought of "the hardware's wrong." That lasted about 3 seconds, because I then realized how cool it looked with black, so I took it as is. Your greenie should be coming pretty soon, right? That bass is just beautiful. Congrats...the blue one still cleans up good, lol...it's showing it's age and use some close up, but it's still a good one.
