The M4 works for the Schaller tuners which should be the ones on your NS2A. I can double check mine when I get home.

Cool, yeah it has the Schaller's but I thought I read somewhere that the headstock holes where different size on the older ones? Thanks for checking though.

Hey, has anyone replaced their schiller tuners with gotoh? I can't find schallers that are direct replacements for the gold ones I have now. The Gotoh look to be direct replacements, but I don't know what post hole size I need. Anyone know???

The bushing on the Schallers is 7/16" and the Gotoh are 9/16". You would need to ream the tuner hole to accommodate the larger Gotoh.

Trying to find out if the older Kramer era Spectors take the same Hipshot M4 D tuner as the newer ones? Anyone know?

Yes they do fit, I replaced one on my NS2A and NS-94 both Korean made.

A custom build for Colin Edwin... this bass is pretty freakin' amazing. I loved the deep rich tone. The dual MMs with the ebony fretless neck is pretty killer.

...so the UPS guy just stopped by work and guess what he had on his truck...my NEW FORTE 4!!!

I only had it out of the case for a few min playing a few runs and slapping...no amp to hear the tone unfortunately.

I will tell you just by picking it up and playing for no more than 5 min that this is by far the nicest bass I have ever owned...and maybe even one of the nicest, most comfortable basses I have ever played. (Carl Thompson's and Fodera's being the other two on that list)

...and WOW does the black stain on the flame maple look AMAZING in person!

I am one happy Spector owner!

My NS20004 has Gotoh tuners, and the holes are definitely larger than those you would have for Schaller tuners.

I ran into this when upgrading my NS2A to active EMGs. However, I was careful to note the original wiring and polarity of the stock passive pups before I removed them and it was wired in this "reverse" manner when I got it. I took pictures of the connections on the preamp labelled F PU and R PU which I took to mean front (P pup) and Rear (J pup) and put them in the post for reference.

I considered just swapping them as Lima suggested to make the volume knob layout more logical but then I worried that the preamp might be voiced for a more bass-heavy input from the F PU connection and a more treble-heavy input from the R PU connection so I just left them as I found them.

I suppose its possible that someone switched the original pup wiring before I got the bass.

The only reply to my original post was grendle who confirmed that this "reversed" volume knob layout sounded right to him.

I'd be curious to hear more about your experiences and whether swapping the inputs would affect the tone.

I missed that post you made previously and just went back and looked at it.

On my NS-2A I followed the same connections and had the "backawards" controls.
Apprarently the P Pups are the (R) rear
and the J Pups are the (F) front to get them working correctly.

I did swap them and there was no difference in tone.

that's a GREAT looking bass! How does the dual MM sound with the OBP-3? I have a Stingray 4HH and it sounds great! ...are they comparable?
