Wow, really? I never thought you could get this kind of sound ( [01] Synaptic Plasticity - YouTube ) out of the BQC.
I had the BQC in my former Rebop and I honestly thought it took a LOT away from the Spector tone. I like my 5LX much better.
That's interesting, though.

No offense to JPS, but I like the photo that you have better than his. The fact that it looks as good as it does in a natural, home environment makes me respect the craftsmanship and finish of your bass even more.

Yes! I remember the entrance well...After I took my Forte 4 out of the case I just set it in the stand and marveled for a long time...then I took hold and kept rubbing my hands all over the body & neck...she was out of the box for 2 hours before I plugged her in.

That's crazy! Maybe the DC's make the difference.
His tone is so awesome, though. I've noticed that, at least from the videos I've seen of him, I've never heard him use distortion, yet he's always there in the mix. I'm not much of a Cannibal Corpse fan, but at least in Blotted Science this holds true.

Thanks all. The funny thing was, I wanted to at least try and smile for the picture but I was so afraid I would either drop it or bump into something, that was the best I could muster up, LOL.

The strange thing is, I just cannot stop looking at this bass. I haven't even played it much because I keep stopping to look at it which probably sounds totally odd. It's definitely a different feel than my Euro 5LX. The neck is thicker but that doesn't make it any more difficult to play. In fact, it feels more comfortable in my hands so i can fly around the neck and actually look like I know what I am doing I have never seen or played a bass with action this low either so it's just amazing.

It's also a very different sound since I am so used to the Tonepump. The first thing I told myself was "I am not getting rid of this Euro 5" since I love the sound of that as well. I need to play with the pre a bit more to check out the different sounds but so far, I am loving it. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to play some more.

In the 'live concert' part of the video, it looks like the bassist is using a Warwick Streamer (except at 2:47 when he magically pulls out another mystery bass), the specific model could vary since the finish is glossed and there are many Steamers they made that way.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was recorded originally with a fretless Fender P or J, though.

Haha. It would figure that when UPS delivered "greenie," work would call me to get on a conference call. I muted my phone though and proceeded to open the case to take a peek and i think my eyes shot out like from a cartoon

I agree; I can't really dig 'Corpse as much as I can Blotted Science. I like the groove-oriented stuff a lot.
Alex Webster's tone is killer throughout. It's crazy how well he can lock in with both the drummer and the guitarist, too.

I guess I am that obvious, haha. Yeah, he is just an amazing player to me but i know Cannibal Corpse is not for everyone so I always recommend Blotted Science as well to others.

Even before his signature bass was released, he always had the TonePumps taken out of the Euro 5's and replaced it with an EMG BQC system since he liked the extra mid controls. And like you mentioned, he uses the EMG DC's instead of the TW's that normally come on the Euro's so that could also be a reason for the difference in sound you were getting Carlos.

Agreed, I don't care for the lyrics/vocal stuff Cannibal Corpse (or most death metal bands really) does but Blotted Science is just crazy and Alex's playing/tone is amazing.

@ 1:04 the and other closeups it's a bluish colored Warwick Streamer Stage II.
There is a white looking mystery bass, could be an older Ibby or a Washburn... no telling. That bass is seen at wider shots that appear really "live".
Music videos back in the 1980's were a trip because in one shot the guitarist could be rockin' a Strat and the next shot a Les Paul. Watch The Cult's Fire Woman video. Some crazy flipping around of instruments in that video.

As for the sound, it's heavily processed. Sounds like it's had the copulation (of a vigorous fashion) compressed out of it with a slight octave effect in the mix. That'd be where I'd start if I was going to try and recreate it. Compression (a ton of it) and an octave pedal. See how that sounds with a growly bass... and the Stage II Streamer is a very growly bass.

The writer of the song lives here and I actually did a gig with him a couple of years ago. It was a keyboard bass. I had to cop the line on a fretless which worked well but the original was a synth.

Tube Quilt comes from a special Maple only found in the Pacific Northwest.
It's much more defined and the figuring looks like tubes or waves.

The bass on the left in Ultra Amber is AAAA Tube Quilt.
The bass on the right in Black Cherry is standard AAAA Quilt.
